I had heard good things about this place and the live music they often feature so my husband and I decided to give it a try despite the fact its out in the middle of absolutely nowhere. Thought some nice acoustic music, good food and cocktails would be a nice reprieve from this awful winter. Uh... Not so much.

Virtually no options for a vegetarian and the server Chris was none-too interested in working out some accommodations for us after we advised him of our problem. So we started and ended with the Twice-Baked Sweet potato appetizer. It boasted cheese and toppings which were virtually non-existent as was any flavor. The service was even worse. We had to ask for cutlery to eat it. Flag the server down again for salt and pepper to try and help it out. The beer was flat. The band never showed and we again had to flag him down for our bill 20 minutes after we had given up on the place.

Atmosphere was good. That's all the good I can muster about the place.

Skip it. There's sooo much better around in any direction.

“Good solid food. Give it a try.”
Reviewed February 1, 2014

Have been here about 4 times. Service friendly. Food is good. I would say above average pub fare. Specials show the chef cares to try new things. Wait staff good. Interior is a little barren and charm less but it fills up on a Friday or Saturday. Good selection of draft beer. Try the patio during the summer. It is a good place. You won't regret the visit.

“Great atmosphere, service and food!”
Reviewed December 28, 2013

Enjoyed a post Christmas family dinner at the Grillhouse tonight (Saturday), It was our first visit and we will be back. We arrived early and the restaurant was nearly empty. It filled up quickly and the live music started at about 7PM - nice easy listening guitar music, Blue Rodeo type songs. I noticed there was a mix of families with young children, couples and the young adult crowd. It's a lively atmosphere but not so loud you couldn't easily carry on a conversation.

The service was fantastic; very attentive server (thanks Chris!) but several other staff members checked in on us frequently to make sure we were well looked after. Super friendly people but not overbearing. Even when the restaurant was full the service didn't skip a beat.

I liked being able to review the extensive menu on line before going. We tried a variety of things including salads, twice baked potatoes, cheese sliders and buffalo chicken. The chicken was too hot for me but that's just a personal preference. It was advertised as hot and the others loved it. The salad dressing was awesome; I think they may sell it in the little shop on site. Will drop in and check. The kids loved their grilled cheese sammies. The fries were tasty and perfectly done. Portions were on the small side by American standards but not in terms of what one would normally eat. We thought it was good value for the price.

The interior was like a roadhouse but somehow classier. Nice finishes including a gas fireplace. Seating included booths, regular tables and bar height tables. It was comfortable and low key.
Parking is ample and the restaurant is easy to find.

We will definitely be back to sample more of the menu. The location is convenient (minutes off the 400) and according to the website they do take reservations. Seems like a great way to break up the drive to/from cottage country especially when HWY 27 is preferred over the 400 due to traffic.

“Worth a visit!”
Reviewed February 22, 2013

We have been here several times since it opened.
I am going to start with the basics. The staff is always friendly and attentive something that makes any experience worthwile. The place is freshly renovated, with a converted barn feel, Very clean and welcoming.
But honestly, what keeps us coming back is the food. The jalapeno corn cheddar muffins are wonderful, the apple butter nicely compliments the spice. The deep fried pickles are crunchy and tart, just the way they should be.
We have tried:
the Lobster Mac and cheese, which I found to be perfectly rich and gooey.
The Brisket burger was delicious, very juicy and full of flavour
The Chicken friend steak was beautifully seasoned,
and the Jambalaya was wonderfully spicy, with big chunks of chicken and sausage, seafood

Honestly, since the portions are so plentiful we have never tried any of the desserts.

“A Very Welcoming Environment”
Reviewed February 19, 2013

We went on a Saturday night to this fairly new establishment (opened later part of 2012). The staff are very welcoming, and don't mind taking time to explain their menu. Their menu has a southern flare to it (catfish, chicken fried steak), many of the southern treats that we have experienced on our many trips to Texas. They are willing to make changes to the listed items, as all are freshly prepared on site. Their homemade onion rings and fries are delicious. We ordered their chicken fried steak and their buffalo chicken and fries. Chicken fried steak came with sweet potatoes and a wonderful variety of steamed veggies. Their buffalo chicken was delicious. It was usually served in a hot sauce, but they happily tossed it in a honey garlic sauce for me.
They have entertainment on Saturday nights (and I think perhaps also Friday nights). The music was easy listening, and was very enjoyable. The decor is really nice with a beautiful bar, and a cozy country setting. Kids are more then welcome, and have a good kids' menu. There were a few vegetarian items, but this is a meat lovers' paradise. I would highly recommend a visit.
