“Excellent Monday Lunch”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 14, 2013

We went to The Yorke Arms to celebrate my son's 21st birthday weekend. The service and food was excellent and made for a perfect lunch. The fires in the lounge and dining room made for our comfort whilst the rain fell heavily outside.
Cannot wait to go again.

“Yum”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 8, 2013

Visited the Yorke Arms as a treat for our silver wedding anniversary in september 2013. Inspired by 'The Trip' having already been to the Inn at Whitewell. Booked for an overnight stay package in double room with afternoon tea, per dinner champagne cocktail and taster menu, and breakfast the following morning.
Check in was not until 4 pm ,so after a pootle around Harrogate we arrived mid afternoon and were shown to our room ,with an invitation to afternoon tea whenever we wanted. This was taken on the small back terrace overlooking the vegetable garden, with a little stream running alongside. No savoury option on offer, but we enjoyed tea for two and a small selection of cakes and biscuits.
Lovely champagne cocktail pre dinner, served with a small selection of delicious canapés .
Tasting menu was served in the restaurant. Fairly formal service, and Gentlemen are required to wear jacket and tie. All courses described on serving, and service is very 'proper' and formal, but does give a great sense of occasion. We were prepared to be underwhelmed by the food, expecting all smoke and mirrors , but each course was exquisitely presented (often garnished with edible flowers which we watched the chefs pick from the garden whilst we had our afternoon tea ), and popping with surprising and subtle flavours. Dishes appear small, but intensity of flavours and number of dishes on offer meant that we left the restaurant well satisfied and quite blown away by the quality of the food.
Rooms are clean and comfortable. Ours had a view to the front of the property and THE most comfortable pillows. Yorke Arms concentrate more on restaurant than rooms, but ours was perfectly nice and very comfortable. Very quiet when we went ( it was a Tuesday so only to be expected ), which did give the impression that one was being stalked by the staff ( bless em ), as soon as you left your room. Service very attentive, though not too intrusive. Clientele of the more elderly persuasion when we went, so very very ( unnervingly) quiet. We loved our stay though, and thank the staff and chefs for making our anniversary very special ( there was even an edible happy anniversary inscribed snack served with after dinner drinks ).

“The pinnacle of the art of great food”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 6, 2013

We decided to visit and stay the night to find out what all the fuss was about at The Yorke Arms. Boy it was worth it and now my only regret is that we haven't been here before. It is truly an amazing place and the food is absolutely top drawer. I've eaten at several Michelin Star restaurants and this really is top of the tree. Intricate precise and really great tasting food delivered by attentive staff who get the balance between service and invisibility just right. There when you want them, gone when you don't. The rooms are very nice. Not luxurious, but homely and comfy. Can't wait to go again.

“Sublime experience...”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 30, 2013

This place gets better and better...we are great fans...four of us, all foodies, had the most perfect lunch...

We work in the industry so feel well placed to make an assessment.

The greeting on arrival is unsurpassed.

The service is immaculate...professional..just the right touch... charming but not overbearing...staff trained to perfection...few places get this just right!

The food...well if it had been my last meal on earth I would have departed in bliss...

The colours, the flavours, the combinations... this is food honed to perfection...without any clever stuff...no dry ice...not a bit of foam in sight...just wonderful ingredients... superbly presented.. and just the right amounts...without shadow of doubt the best in the North of England if not the UK...

The wine list is extensive and the advice sound. Our Pinot Gris and then claret were perfect for the food.

The coffee and sweet meats were again like the rest of the meal outstanding.

It is worthy of more than one Michelin star...

BRAVO BRAVO

“Expensive, but worth it.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 30, 2013

Having visited the Yorke Arms for lunch in July last year and having promised myself I would come back for dinner, I booked an DB+B overnight stay in a superior double ( reviewed in the hotel listings ) As a package, this works well.

Dinner was excellent : starters were truffled rabbit terrine and guinea fowl ; mains were grouse and hare, all food we don't usually eat at home ! The dishes were beautifully presented and the only mildly negative comments would be that the grouse could have been a bit gamier for my taste and some cuts of the hare were a bit dry.

The chocolate dessert was very well-received, as was the calvados crème brulee.

Wine is expensive with not many bargains on the notably French-oriented list ( this being fine with me ) The St. Joseph went very well with the main courses. Interestingly, there is an American chardonnay on the list at £69 that is double the price charged at Martha and Vincent in Ilkley - so choose carefully !

Breakfast was terrific - we both had lightly-smoked haddock and poached eggs : I have never had better.

My last review described the service as somewhat charmless and I am delighted to report that this was not the case this time.
