We booked a package deal for afternoon tea dinner bed and breakfast. We were well greeted and shown to our room with an invitation to take afternoon tea in the lounge. Our large room was at the front of the hotel and just let down by being too narrow to take the bath which was squeezed in- a decent shower would have been better that clambering into the bath to reach the overhead shower. The afternoon tea was a disappointment. A plate of assorted bought biscuits and two slices of cake with a poor example of Wensleydale with fruit cake. With a Michelin starred restaurant I don't expect loads but would expect something made in house and a little more stylish. I feared for the dinner experience but need not have worried! Canapes were excellent and the meal that followed showed the culinary strength of the kitchen. Just a couple of quibbles in the five courses there was only a small fish and crab flavoured ball accompanied by layered guinea fowl I wiuld have expected a fish course in its own right. There was too little contrast beteen the guinea fowl and the quail main course. The souffle was a triumph! Breakfast was excellent. A wonderful setting and excellent staff.
