“Great place to have lunch too.”
Reviewed May 31, 2012

Each time we visit Aquilas we go to this wonderful place for lunch. Their lunch time menu is very reasonably priced and the view is lovely over the marina, with just a short stroll to the beach.

We visited this hotel on a special offer through Viajes CajaMurcia, so we were full board with two visits to the spa and 3 games of mini-golf included. The box of chocolates and welcoming bottle of cava, plus gift set of toiletries, that were also included was a nice touch. We found the staff very helpful and friendly - we cannot understand why previous visitors found otherwise, unless they have hired new staff recently! It's a bit far from the centre for travellers without a car, but the 20 minute stroll along the sea front was probably good for us after all the food we ate at each meal! Regarding the pillows - we only had one each however my husband put a folded blanket under his and (without asking) there was a second pillow there the following day. The WIFI in our room had a weak signal: when we mentioned this they gave us a cable for our laptop, which then worked perfectly. Like any buffet, some of the hot food was lukewarm (if you time it right, you can obviously get hot food) so we tended to choose meat or fish that was cooked to order, and we thought there was a wide selection of good quality fresh food. My only complaint was that after the first day there was no black tea, just green and red tea plus herbal teas, so you may want to bring a couple of tea bags if like me you prefer English breakfast tea for breakfast!

As Thereses nö Otter acceptable Hotels in Aguilas, we had to come back to that one, even though the experience from last time had been biased...

We decided to take a similar room as two years ago, due to the relatovely good price size relation.

The first night there was simply no hot water.

The second and third night there was no water at all from 2300 to 0700 in the morning due to sanitation.

The only thing offered by the reception was an apology.

I booked the trip through HRS which gave us some goodies like free newspaper in the room, important only because the next news stand is really far and I still like to stay in touch with the world, even on vacation.the newspaper is only to be read in the lobby, they say here though... It's HRS's fault...

We took an inside parking spot, which goes for 8 euro per night, when entering the door openes all right, when driving out my wife has to get out to open it by hand, the motor would not go all the way.only an apology was offered.

By the door of the restaurant, where breakfast is served the opening times are as following: Breakfast Mon-Fri 0700-1000. BUT.................apparently it's 0730... Seems like nothing, but it is important when traveling with a child and you calculate eating times by waking times, ie a child lasts around 40 minutes without being annoying to other guests, meaning....we had 10 minutes left to drink a coffee... The receptions reaction: sorry... We printed it wrong.

So if you have to come to Aguilas then you are FORCED to stay here, but just know that the property is run down, incoherence is daily and impressison is the motto..

Quality of food is acceptable, the spa is rather good...

We got another ten days here to spend, so will be keeping you informed...

Only an apology

Room Tip: Junior suites are the best it offers, stay away from presidential and suite real...

My husband and I travelled to Aguilas in early October 2011 because every guide book we read mentioned all the fantastic beaches that were close to the town (but difficult to find except for the town beach which was lovely). We decided at the last minute to stay in the Hotel Puerto Juan Montiel. On arrival at the hotel, we met a very pleaseant receptionist who gave us a good deal for two nights. Once we saw the room, we jumped at the offer. The room was actually a two bed apartment (though the kitchen was not equipped to be used, other than the fridge) but that said, the room was very nice.
Our problems began at breakfast. On entering the restaurant, we noticed a sign that said 'Wait to be seated', and wait we did. We eventually gave up waiting because no one was coming near us, but even after seating down, nobody wanted to take our order. Eventually we were approached and asked if we wanted tea or coffee. Two pots were later plonked on our table, with barely enough for a cup in either, by a waiter with no civility whatsoever. I attempted to take a fried egg from the buffet but failed as it was stuck to the hot plate. The rest of the hot food looked equally appetising so we eventually settled for bread and butter.
We couldn't sleep that night due to the noise coming from some function three or four floors below us, which went on late into the night. The following day's breakfast was even worse. We waited to be seated initially and this time it wasn't that there was nobody to seat us, the staff that were threre ignored us. We managed to find a table that had just been vacated and eventually two pots were plonked in front of us without even being ordered by an extremely rude waitress. We did not consider having any other meal there, as you can imagine. The hotel is quite nice but I could not recommend going anywhere near that restaurant/diningroom.
As to the town of Aguilas itself, early October is definately not the time to see it.

I stayed here for one night mid October. Basic room, good wardrobe space and nice bathroom but too hot and we couldn't get air con to cool the room down.
There were no extra pilllows which is a pet hate of mine as I like 2 pillows.
Had their buffet dinner which considering hotel was probably only about 10% occupancy wasn't too bad. I should imagine that there is more choice when full. Breakfast was included in the rate (we paid about €56 for a twin). We were able to park on the road outside the hotel as it was mid week but I very much doubt that you could do this at weekends or in the main season. It was easy to find, clean and reasonable price so I would probably stay there again if I could get them to sort out the air con

The location is a highlight but some details in the hotel (e.g. staff, cleanness, out of services) have great areas of improvement.
