When our family group of 3 vans pulled in to the Post Office Hotel there were people busily tending to lawns and the pool, a good sign that someone cares. Upon entering the bar in the pub (to pay for a powered site) we were impressed with just how clean and tidy the whole place is. We all felt very welcome.
The facilities were also very clean and well maintained, which again was a surprise for where Camooweal is. Food in the dining room was ok, nothing spectacular but if you don't want to cook it will suffice. Can definitely recommend a stay here over a free camp up the road (at Avon Downs).
Tip - the post office / small supermarket across the road sells a range of grocery items (mainly woolworths 'select' range) at very high mark ups.

Had a great stay here in a powered site. Had read some of the poor reviews/blogs against other Camooweal spots but found this place really good and safe for the family - friendly welcome in the hotel and a great nights sleep - it hit the spot - in terms of improvements perhaps the pool could take a clean.

We had an overnight stop here a couple of days ago, and it was a really great experience...nicely grassed caravan site, swimming pool, albeit freezing cold.!!!...a nice camp kitchen, lovely clean tidy amenities and a really good disabled facility....not much at Camoowael to keep the average traveller more than one night, but certainly was good for that one night we spent...

Clean, quiet & very safe. A must do is the Drovers camp tour. Tom was so giving of his time & extremely informative & genuine. We had a great stay here in this peaceful & friendly town.
Certainly worth staying here and going to the Drovers camp to get a real sense of the Australian outback & it's rich heritage.

Stayed overnight, friendly pub, good home cooked meal, small van park with clean amenities block and standard size sites. Between Mt. Isa and Barkley Homestead and definitely worth considering as a stopover.

I camped here on a powered site in December and was very pleased with the amenities. The park was neat and tidy and the pool and toilet/shower block was very clean. This was definitely one of the better outback caravan parks I stayed in on my travels and the hotel manager was very polite and helpful.

A pretty desolate place in the middle of nowhere with limited shopping supplies.
Motel/caravan park has green grassy area, clean cabin, only kettle but access to camp kitchen in camping area.
It was in the 40s when we stayed so we sat in the pool for a few hours.
We ordered the special for dinner (roast) and although it was $18 it was served quickly and was tasty.
We were there in the school holidays and it was pretty full so booking ahead might be good.
The BP the next morning was a let down, 30 minutes for a luke warm coffee and a toastie....with 3 kids in the car it was a bit long!
