“An enriching experience”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 27, 2012

We arrived at La Forge after a long day travelling. Charles met us as we arrived and immediately made us feel at home. He showed us to our suite and left us to settle in - bliss. Although called La Forge, the building in which we stayed was a mill and part of a medieval community, the buildings of which were in existence up to 1928. Charles and Loare are restoring the grounds and mill with archeological sensitivity and a lot of vision. We walked part of their grounds which extend up the valley along a white water river which was in full flow following the recent rains. Their three dogs joined us as we marvelled at the tranquility of this stunning location. Much refreshed after our walk, we enjoyed a wonderful meal prepared by Charles which was mostly sourced at La Forge. Later, we retired to our spacious room and fell asleep to the sound of the waterfall. It was with some regret that we left the next morning to continue our journey, but we look forward to returning to stay a while longer. Thank you for a delightful stay Charles and Loare - au revoir

Thank you so much for your comments! It was lovely to share a few moments with you and we are so happy that you appreciate the surroundings. It is true that many seem to think that the stays at The Forge are short, however, at least you were able to enjoy a few moments far away from the storm of daily life! Again, it was a pleasure to share our home and food with you and we do hope to see you again soon!
Best,
Charles

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at La Forge de Montolieu, the peace and quiet, the incredible beauty of the waterfalls and the woods surrounding the Forge, the excellent gourmet meals featuring fresh local produce and meat, the homemade bread and jams, the lovely spacious rooms overlooking the waterfalls, the wonderful conversations with our kind, welcoming hosts, the access to the kitchenete for making teas, etc, and so much more. Our only sadness was when we had to leave! We loved it all, and hope to return with other family members and friends. This is a treat you will definitely love!

Absolutely wonderful to have you here at the Forge! We were really happy to have you discover the wonders of what is around us and are thankful that you chose us to dream for a little bit during your vacation. Hopefully, we shall see ourselves again soon and what a great feeling to have a bit of America come and visit! Thanks for your comments and hope to see you soon....

A warm welcome, stunningly beautiful grounds and wonderful cuisine!

The dinners and lunches provided at La Forge are star-class! Charles consults with his guests about culinary preferences and cooks accordingly. Fresh garden produce and herbs cut before your eyes! One can eat alone or with other guests. Also they stock great local wines.

Laure & Charles offer very good advice regarding local restaurants and places of interest in the area, which we were delighted to avail of. Both are interesting conversationalists and meal-times are very entertaining.

Spacious rooms. Only downside was lack of en-suite facilities although there was a private shower-room.

We are so glad that you had a lovely time at our place! We are also happy that you were able to inaugurate the gardens below with your afternoons spent reading and drawing - hopefully it helped to make your trip in the South of France memorable and relaxing. Finally, thank you for your comments on our food - we are so lucky to be in a region with such good quality ingredients!! Again, thank you for your stay and your comments...
