“A must visit place in Jagdalpur”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 31, 2013

The Zonal Anthropological Museum is located in the Chitrakote Road near the Government Engineering College in Jagdalpur. Many a times the tourists forget/ignore to visit this museum located right in the city due to buzy schedule of visiting the nearby attractions of Jagdalpur.
We made a point to compulsarily visit this place while touring Bastar in November 2012. We were astonished to see the variety of things kept in this visibly deserted building. There is almost everything here depicting the evolution of the tribals of bastar and also the glimpse of their traditional life. The museum has separate rooms dedicated to separate themes like 'Religious Articles' , 'Hunting Tools' , 'Musical Instruments' , 'Decorative Crafts','Clothing' etc etc. The museum also gives an insight to the tradition of 'Gothul' which is a community centre of tribal villages where young unmarried boys and girls spend nights. This tradition of 'Gothul' still exists in some densely forested areas of Bastar.Overall a nice place to spend and hour or two and get some knowledge of the tribal life of Bastar. This is generally not crowded and in the afternoon it has just a handful of visitors. There is no entree fees as well.
