“Beutiful Beach with BIG waves - but too dangerous to swim.”

A really stunning long beach - doesn't get too crowded. Go to the northern end if you want that 'all over tan'! However, the sea is very dangerous, they don't permit surfers, people drown there every year. There are often very big waves and every 5 minutes or so a series of extremely big waves often come and catch the unsuspecting. Just stand on the edge of the surf to feel the power of the waves - not really suitable for unsupervised children.

Salgado beach really is lovely and as we live in the area for around 3 months a year we often head here for peace and quiet. While the Algarve beaches are wall to wall bodies this beach is the opposite. Even in the height of summer you can walk down the beach and find your own spot well away from other people. Most visitors stay near the car park and by just walking 50 m you can be alone. If you walk further along the beach then you will find an area where naturists sunbathe. the dunes behind the beach keep my kids happy for ages running up and down them. The only issue is the sea if really too rough to swim here (I wouldnt even paddle here) but it is superb to sit on the beach and watch the wild waves. If you want to swim head for Sao Martinho which has a beautiful sheltered cove and calm seas.

This is the best beach for the summer months as it is quieter with a cooling breeze.
