We were not expecting much having read some of the reviews but we were pleasantly surprised. We asked for a high room with a view and we liked this as it was away from the restaurant and pool. The room was modern, clean and had a nice patio which was not overlooked as some were. However, there was a very noisy family in a room in front of us which spoiled it a bit.
We did get annoyed at the length of time and number of requests to get the a/c working.
The food in the restaurant was good - although the restaurant itself is not particularly great for eating in. The restaurant staff were very good. We did not have the buffet for dinner but had a very reasonably priced meal. Breakfasts were really good.
It is close to town to walk into - we bought spices which were cheap - but that was about it.

Room Tip: Go for high county cottage with a view - one that has a patio that is not over-looked.

Hello!
Thank you for commenting on your stay in our "Jungle Book" setting. The Cardamom County team consists of dedicated individuals who have their heart set on warm welcomes and thoughtful service.

Many of our guests tell us that they especially enjoy the view from the upper rooms, which are designed to maximize those views! The cottages in the lower parts of the property, overlooking the pool or garden are lovely as well and we make every effort to accommodate our guests to their needs.
Usually the fresh mountain air makes it quite pleasant even without AC, nonetheless we apologize for any inconvenience caused by the delay.
We wish you happy and healthy travels!

We spent 4 weeks in India from budget hotels, tents, palm huts, self catering apartments and homestays...this was the fanciest place we stayed and was a lovely change! We were welcomed with floral necklaces and a cool drink and given a choice of rooms. The bed was massive and the room came with air conditioning. The pool was lovely and cool with complimentary towels and pool snacks and tea mid-way through the day. The spa was certainly different; I went for the ayurvedic massage which I'd had once before it Goa. This one was a little different, they still used sesame seed oil and I was required to wear a paper loin cloth which consisted of a bit of paper on the front then a string for the rest and was immediately untied when I was lying on my front. Half to the massage was to pour the oil and rub over my body and the other half was cleaning the oil up around me; regardless I was relaxed. Then the masseuse climbed gently on me, kneeling on my thighs and pulled my upper body off the table into extension a few times (with fair warning) - it was quite a stretch, before going on all fours to crack my thoracic spine 4-5 times. All very interesting, however the oddest part was at the end. I assume she couldn't get the shower working properly so then physically helped wash me butt naked with buckets of water - definitely not one for the prudes! Regardless of all that, the hotel and the staff were ever so helpful and even allowed us use of a room to freshen up when we were no longer guests after returning from overnight camping on the Periyar Tiger Trail. Location-wise it is also just around the corner from the martial arts and culture centre so very handy. I would highly recommend this place to anyone travelling to Thekkady.

Room Tip: We stayed in room 203, quite high up but had air conditioning and a giant bed! You'll certainly want air conditioning in April however it is cooler here than the coast.

Hello!
It’s a matter of much pride to know we’ll be remembered for making such wonderful travel memories! And the credit goes to a team of dedicated individuals who have their heart set on warm welcomes and thoughtful service. Fantastic to hear that you enjoyed the best of our hospitality: a hot cup of tea by the pool oasis, in the company of the mountain air, is a simple pleasure we love, too!
We enjoy a privileged location between the market and activities, and the National Park entrance, in addition to having the beautiful bamboo forests of the park as your view.

Ayurvedic massages are definitely a different experience than the traditional Western massage style – in fact the tradition is more frequently done in a clinical setting, and not for the overly modest to be sure. Perhaps your Goa experience was more of a “fusion” style? Regarding the washing, many of our guests have found it difficult to wash the oil off sufficiently, hence the assistance.

We’re also huge fans of our neighbor the Periyar Tiger Reserve, and feel the best way to experience it is on foot. We’re thrilled to hear that you experienced the Tiger Trail and hope you enjoyed it!
We wish you happy and safe travels and look forward to welcoming you back to our home in the hills!

Happy travels to you!

Excellent property, its conveniently located not very far from the Periyar national park (5-10 mins drive to the gate) ... plenty of eating options and Ayurveda Massage centers within walking distance. Quite friendly staff. Food is excellent in the resort. I stayed in the Periyar Cottage, my room no. was 210 which was excellent, had a nice site out porch and was quite close to the pool. The room was also very nicely decorated and had a nice feel to it. The Hotel has a list of activities which they can arrange at a price for you. I stayed only one night but seeing the property would have loved to stay longer. The pool is nice too. Highly recommend.

Room Tip: If u are choosing Periyaar Category go for 210. Great room.

The grounds are lovely at this resort hotel set on a hillside. Bungalows dot the very steep grounds. Inside the furnishings and bathrooms are basic but do have king size beds, TVs and safes. Be aware that not all rooms have AC. If AC is important to you make sure you book an AC room. Otherwise the rooms have vaulted ceilings with a fan which did the trick of cooling things down and I found it bearable. I definitely would not recommend this hotel for the elderly or infirm because of the steep and uneven steps that must be climbed to get to your room. Be sure to have a flashlight with you at night to help you get to your room. The swimming pool setting is lovely looking, but lthe pool looked like it lacked chlorine. Personally I would not swim in it. Each bungalow has a verandah with two chairs for relaxing in this peaceful resort where we saw monkeys walking by. The included breakfast buffet was very nice with made to order eggs and omelettes available.

We designed the swimming pool as an oasis within the resort– the black granite material provides a lovely reflective quality to the surrounded by towering greenery. We’re sorry if the dark finish gave the impression that it lacked chlorine.
