Spent six (6) nights here in September 2012. Initially booked into another hotel, which was a disaster. Asked an agency on the Plaza for suggestions, and at Casona Monsante got a great walk in rate (50 soles for a first floor room without breakfast). The room I had was enormous, high ceiling, with two beds, table and chai, a window seat facing the courtyard, and a newly remodeled bathroom with no leaks, great hot water. The room has a telephone and a small TV (not great reception). They had a space heater available which I really appreciated. There is wi=fi on the second floor, or near the office, but I was occasionally able to pick it up inside my room also. The breakfast room and parlor are decorated with antiques. This is a historic casona of patrimonial significance, I believe they received a grant to help with the restoration. You can tell they did a professional job. The hotel is located on a pedestrian street, Jr. Amazonas, a few blocks from the Plaza. As such, there is no taxi or vehicle noise, although on the weekend you could sometimes hear the music from the street (not with the TV on). I had a room in the back so in general it was very quiet. The manager does not really speak English, but is very nice.
Tip: ask about the orchids... did not know about this until after I left!
