Arrange a tour through Eagle Tours, I highly recommend them.

Count on about 1.5 - 2 hours to get there and about an hour to tour the caverns.

Lots of wonderful stalagmites and stalactites to view.

You almost have to take a day tour to visit the caverns. We took Eagle Tours, which has an office in the Plaza de Armas area of Chachapoyas. They were extremely knowledgeable, kind and fun.

Before you visit the Caverns, you need to rent boots, as the caves are in a natural state. The cave floor is mud. There are no cement floors and lighting that we would find in the United States. You should take your own bright flashlight.

The cavern formations were not exceptional, however, seeing a cave in its natural state, with the water and mud was an eye opener.

I enjoyed the adventure and the commadre of our tour-mates and would do it again.

It's just a cavern without anything interesting in my opinion. Just a bunch of stalactites and lots of water. You need to rent rubber boots to visit the cavern because there's a lot of water and mud.

If you are going to Karajia, try to combine it with Pueblo de los Muertos instead. The caves are not all that impressive by themselves, but the agencies want to make this a full day tour.

I don't believe I paid 70 soles though!

Agosto is a great guide, but chances are you won't get him for this tour (I think he goes to Kuelap virtually every day).

We had a tour organized by Hostel Revash/Andes Tours for 70 S/person. A little expensive considering the poor interest of the sites, but it was ok, especially with our great guide Agusto, speaking english, french and german. He made the tour great, request him absolutely!
