Spent 3 nights here as a base for exploring the region. The room was excellent with fantastic views of Gocta waterfall (as all rooms have), very modern bathroom, hot water as required, walk in shower and jacuzzi bath. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful, we arrived late on the first night but had no problems ordering dinner from the good a la carte menu. The food is tasty and well presented. The hotel is in lovely grounds on the edge of a small village and has a pretty if not cold infinity style pool. During our stay we visited the waterfall itself - a lovely 90 minute trek through forest (horses are also available!), Quiocta caverns and the superb ruins at Kuelap - a long but spectacular drive but well worth it to see a stunning pre-Inca fortress perched precariously on a 3000m ridge with no other tourists to be seen.

Would thoroughly recommend a stay here.

The Gocta Lodge is an oasis in the region. It has been an important contribution to travelers interested in visiting the area, but falls short in some respects.
Although the staff is friendly, they lack thorough preparation. They need more training in order to be able to provide a good service. The food is just OK, not many plates to choose from and needs a more healthy offer.
Rooms are clean and cozy. Very well arranged. Hot water is a real problem. It is not really "hot", it only gets warm and at a minimum; I think they have some problem with the installation that they must correct.
Other than that, it is an astonishing place to visit for the location and the natural beauty. Great effort in giving us this place, but there is still some work ahead to polish this gem.

On our private car roundtrip through Northern Peru we spent two days at Gocta Lodge but very disappointed by the overall price-performance ratio.

Though the situation of Gocta Lodge, the size of the rooms and the pool and garden area are very good to good, the main points of our disappointment were:

- no services available outside meal times (i.e. no drinks at the pool, no personal at reception etc.)
- no telephone nor internet or TV available
- no hot water just luke warm
- food quality ok but little and served cold; service personal deemed to be untrained and completely overwhelmed with more than 4 people in the restaurant
- presentation of food were not professional (better to go to the local restaurant at the main square!)
- no help with luggage when leaving
- hundreds of dead mosquitos and flies were closed into the ceiling light
- very, very noisy when all rooms are taken which was the case at our stay there

It's pity for this could be a very good place to stay but I think the management is unable to work professionally or is not interested in improving the services.

It was the worst experience during our trip but the most expensive one. We did not check the quality of the only Hospedaje but maybe it's worthwhile to try next time...

Stayed there last year for fiestas patrias. The view is awe inspiring although the place sticks out like a sore thumb when you compare it to the restof the buildings. They were very accomodating. We ended uo hiking later than usualso they prepared us dinner instead of the lunch that we had originally planned. We had an injured hiker, my wife. Our guide spoke with them and they offered to send us a horse. When we declined, they sent one of their employees with a flashlight to meet us and help us back to the hotel. The dinner was amazing, the service was great and not overdone. The views are breathtaking. The rooms were great although I would reccomend an upper room to help keep the spiders out of the room. Other than one large spider, everything about was this place was top notch.

There is no disputing that the hotel has one of the best vistas in Peru (the other being in the small town of Cachora, B&B Salacantay) but this place has some serious issues, that you need to be aware of, such as HOT clean water. Your bath water will be brown and tepid. After, working with a local worker on the small 40 gallon heater I gave up on having a hot bath or shower. The small water heater did not have enough umph to fill the tub with anything but warm water.... brown at that. I was the only person in the hotel but I cannot imagine what it would be like with all the rooms using the water heater. Then there was the service, which was handled by two young ladies that were well meaning but not professionally trained in either service or cooking, and since there are NO restaurants to speak off within 15 miles then you get what you get. Thus, if you are going to charge top $$$ for a place then hot (clean) water, good food and professional service is a no brainer. Best, go there for a beer and enjoy the vista then go on to Chachapoyas.

This is a charming hotel, one wouldn't expect in the middle of nowhere. The rooms are comfortable, decorated in a simple and modern way with nice bathrooms. Nature is all around you and one can see the waterfalls from each room. The food is simple and good. The hotel is at the end of the village and one may hear dogs barking at night but let us not forget that we are in the country side. The village inhabitants run the access to the falls in an eco-friendly way. The walk to the falls is amazing.
An incredible stay.

Room Tip: All the rooms are nice.

This hotel provides an unique view on the Gocta waterfalls. With 770 meters they are said to be the third highest in the world. The hike to the waterfalls takes 2 1/2 hours and leads through some patches of well preserved cloud forest. If you are lucky, you can even spot a cock-of-the-rock (Peru`s national bird). You have to pay a small entrance fee (5 Soles) to the local community. You can also hire a guide. I recommend to walk the trail on the opposite side of the creek. It provides great views on the falls.

The hotel is probably the best in the whole state of Amazonas. The rooms are large, and comfortable, but not luxurious. They all have a view on the waterfalls. The food at the restaurant is varied and good.

Although the features of the hotel are great, the best it has to offer is the view on the falls. You can see them from almost everywhere at the hotel. Whether you are sitting on the terrace for breakfast or lunch, lying on your bed, or at its small swimming pool.

To get here you must fly to Tarapoto or Cajamarca. From Tarapoto access is through Pedro Ruiz (~ 8 hrs). From there you take a 30 minutes taxi (~ 30 Soles) to Cocachimba, the tiny town where this place is located. They can help you with logistics at the hotel.
