The building itself is charming, the bed comfortable, and the location on the Plaza de Armas is great, but the longer we were there the more we couldn't wait to move on. We probably would have enjoyed the stay and services much better if we were still in our backpacking days, but that's not what we were seeking this time.

The owner, Jesus, does his best to coordinate the entire stay, but we didn't feel he was willing to be flexible to our needs. We also didn't appreciate the extra costs that jumped up when it came time to pay. To explain: we are used to traveling independently, and so learning we had been lumped into each of their daily group tours to Gocta falls and Kuelap was already not ideal, though admittedly it was much cheaper and meant we were led by Carlos, who is a GREAT tour guide and fluent in Spanish, English, and French. These tours left at 9am, which is too late for the best photography and for the waterfall it meant hiking thru the burning heat of the day (the guidebooks recommend to start MUCH earlier). The waterfall tour takes you to the base of the upper falls, which is by far less impressive than the view from the base of the lower falls that we found to be truly spectacular (note: the upper falls is a much easier hike, which is probably why the tours take you there-- it's also an easier drive for them). When we had tried to opt for arranging a much more expensive private tour instead of the group tour, Jesus was stubborn and insistent that we leave at a particular time (which defeats the purpose of hiring your own driver and really left us with a bad impression). Upon checkout, we were presented with a bill that was twenty soles more per night than they quoted when I booked by telephone, as well as an additional surcharge on our late-night pick-up from Pedro Ruiz (the bus company has mis-quoted our journey and arrival times, so a surcharge is understandable because they had to wait for us, but it would have been much better to tell us about this right away instead of --surprise!-- just throwing it on the bill at the end).

We tried to get to Leymebamba by hiring a taxi, but had a very bad experience and were sure we were about to be robbed by friends of the taxi driver. We told the driver to take us back to town and then went to this establishement to spend the night and take their tours. It was nice to have a custom itenerary set up for us. The rooms were clean. My only complaint is that we could not connect to their wi-fi with our iPhones, Ipad, or Kindle. But across the plaza was a nice cafe and grocery store that had excellent wi-fi. When I return to this area I will use their tour service and accommodations again.

Room Tip: If you don't want to hear any activities on the plaza ask for a room in the back. But it was gr...

I was staying for a few nights with my friend, and our room was very clean and tidy, the showers had (yayy!) very hot water at all times of the day with great shower pressure, and the location was perfect --right in the center plaza of town. However, what makes this place amazing is without a doubt the owners/staff...not only did they organize a tour (on horseback with a guide) to Gocta Falls that included transportation straight from the hostel, when my friend fell violently ill with some kind of parasite, they helped us get to the hospital, and also woke up at 3am to help arrange pickup from us. I'm so incredibly grateful to them and would (more than) recommend this hostel to any traveler.

Room Tip: They are doing renovations on one side of the hostel, so the rooms there are cheaper (though in my o...

We were very comfortable in this old wooden hotel. The beds were good, we had plenty of hot water, wifi worked also inside our room. There are front rooms with balconies to the plaza, we stayed in the back, I suppose it is quieter there.
I had made reservation for the hotel and for tours over the internet and it worked out very well, they even went on the tour with us, when it was just the two of us and I am sure they did not make much money, if any, that way.
The laundry service lost a pair of my pants, the hotel owners were very sorry and paid for the pants. Whenever we returned from a trip they came running with the key.

We were lucky enough to have forgotten our laptop charger in the Hostal Revash because the owner was amazing and made all the efforts possible to send it back to us. She actually sent it by colectivo and then by bus till Tarapoto, bearing all the costs!! I guess not many hostel owners would do the same. Thank you!!

We loved our stay at the Revash. Carlos, the manager of the hotel and Andes Tours, was very helpfull. The room was comfortable and had a great view of the Plaza des Armas. We paid 80 soles/night for a double, which we thought a good price. Andes Tours is a good agency and will take you anywhere you want to go with english speaking guides.

I came here on a recommendation and wasn't disappointed. I got myself a good value room in the new section away from the courtyard with a new mattress, very comfortable - only problem there is the wifi doesn't work in the rooms, but there are comfy seats around the courtyard where you can get a connection. I had hot water every time bar one when it was lukewarm, but the pressure was always good. Breakfast is extra but worth it - tasty bread and plenty of fruit. Tours can be organised through the hostal and I can recommend them - good value with enthusiastic guides.
Gracias otra vez Carlos y familia!

Room Tip: Rooms away from the courtyard are cheaper.
