First of all, it's not as close to the airport as it says. Also at the prices you'll be paying the taxis you're better of staying in the centre of Rome.

The room was ok but the shower area a was lil too small. When I checked in I was pretty hungry and decided to go down to eat. And guess what? They don't have a restaurant! That's what the receptionist told me. So there is a 4* hotel in the middle of nowhere without a restaurant. This is sad. I don't think I'll be staying there again.

Room Tip: Don't!

We stayed here during a school tour of Italy while we were in Rome for five days. It was a fine hotel with great rooms and meals. Air conditioning was ok in some rooms - it is a value to Texans, of course (and it was sweltering hot in Rome while we were there). The hotel provided breakfast boxes to us on the last morning when we had to leave for the airport very early.

We arrived at this hotel in the evening, The road into it is a small lane off of a very busy main road. When we arrived there was only one person in the reception area which meant a wait to get checked in, as she was trying to get someone up to work the bar. We checked in but had to leave our passports at the desk for them to finish our checkin (didn't like that at all). Parking is along the road outside of the hotel, not exactly ideal but not bad. Went to the room which was small and old and very warm. The air conditioner did not work so we had to open the windows to be able to sleep. The bathroom had a very tiny square shower with a broken door. I am small but still had a hard time not bumping into the walls in it. The hair dryer was one of the incredibly ancient ones with a box on the wall and a hose for drying your hair. Our neighbors were incredibly loud and rather rude (banging doors and very loud talking till about 11:30pm then back up knocking on doors and yelling to wake people up at 6am). Also the hotel is in a neighborhood, so we had dogs starting to bark and chickens crowing at sun up (5:30ish). The airport track is directly over the hotel so you hear planes all the time. We went down for breakfast and there were several long tables but only three tables for less than 6 people in the whole place. The breakfast was not laid out very well as to use the toaster, you had to block the entire area where the food was. There wasn't much choice, but it was tolerable. Overall, not a good night and we will not be returning. And by the way, we are platinum members of Choice Privileges, but when we asked for a late checkout of one hour, we were told it was impossible.

Dear Guest,

Thank you for the comment you made; your point of view is always a chance for us to increase our service.

We would like to draw your attention to the issues raised by you, i.e. to the passports registration that we make in a very short time, so you can get the documents back in 2 minutes without leaving them at the desk if you do not like it.
About the parking, it is in front of the hotel you are right, it is just outside of it; if you prefer a garage you can easily find it at the hotel basement.
Referring to the room, you booked a Basic room: 20sm room with classic furniture and private facilities with shower, as you asked for. The air conditioned works by remote control as you can find explained on our Hotel Directory in the room; you used the master-switch on the wall instead, that is why it did not switch on.
The square shower is standard and the door has been double checked after your review: now is fine, we regret we did not have the possibility to arise during your stay, please always refer to our Reception for any request.
Regarding the hairdryer furniture, it is that suggested for hotels, safer and more powerful than normal dryers, suitable for the domestic use indeed.
Concerning neighbors, it must have been annoying we see; we hope next time there will be people more observant of quietness rules.
With reference to the location, we actually are in a green area and you can listen dogs bark as birds chirp. It is subjective, someone prefer the sounds of nature and someone the noise of traffic.
The airport track is definitely not over the hotel, as is 5km away; even if our area is not the traditional route, you chose an airport hotel so it happens flights to fly in our direction; we are afraid this bothered you.
About the breakfast room, thanks to your remark we are going to prepare more tables for less than 6 people. Our buffet is a full American one, including cakes, pies, tarts, fruit, corn flakes, eggs, bacon, cheese, tea, coffee, milk and much more; we are sorry you found it “tolerable”, we are going to improve it. To toast your bread just introduce it in the toaster; our restaurant staff is at your disposal during all your stay for any doubt.
Finally, late check-outs are upon availability also for platinum members of Choice Privileges; we always try to satisfy our guests but unfortunately that day was not possible due to a very high occupancy.

We are sure you will agree with us on all the above and look forward to welcoming you at Excel Hotel Roma Ciampino.

Best regards,

A good hotel near Ciampino airport. We stayed in a very nice, new, spacious suite in the annexe building, for 3 nights. The breakfast was very good (fresh ricotta.....). A bit of a problem to get to the metro (Anagnina station) as the buses are not punctual at all. They offered a free shuttle bus ride to Ciampino airport on our way back. There was a bad smell at the WC, hopefully solved by now.

Dear Customer,

Thank you very much for your report; we are glad that you enjoyed our standard, our American buffet breakfast with fresh products and that you took advantage of the complimentary shuttle service we provide every morning to Ciampino airport.
We are also pleased to learn that you appreciated the free upgrade to Suite room that we were happy to offer you.
Your two records deserve a clarification: to make our guests’ stay even more pleasant, we organize round trip railway station transfers by Excel shuttle at any extra cost. In this way you can reach Rome city centre in just 30 minutes buying only the train ticket: 15 minutes free transfer hotel/railway station and 15 minutes travel by train Ciampino/Roma Termini railway station. We are sure you will be happy to try them next time.
Finally, we double checked the WC and everything has been solved, thanks for your kind note.

Looking forward to welcoming you at Excel Hotel Roma Ciampino,

Best regards,

A short overnight stay, hotel based on location and Tripadvisor reviews.

Bottom line, I would have no hesitation in returning to this hotel, excellent value for money. However does have a few "niggles" which would prevent me giving it a 4 rating.

No issues finding the hotel but I was picked up by someone fairly familiar with the area, is signposted off the main road, however you'd need to have a decent idea where it is to not miss the signage.

The hotel seems to be in 2 buildings, first building you approach from the main road does not house the reception area, reasonabily well signposted.

Check-in was painless, with a helpful and efficient receptionist, made sure I knew where the room was (in the other building), where breakfast would be served and provided their (limited) room service menu.

Room I had was on the ground floor, just across from entrance door, normally I would change this room due to location, but as it was just an overnight stay I didn't. As it turns out I had no issues with noise either internally or externally. Some limited flight traffic heard bit didn't go on too late.

Room itself was a pleasant surprise, a lounge area with sofa bed, tv, table and stools. There was also a kitchenette behind some cupboard doors & available for an extra 20Euros per night.

A seperate bedroom, made up as a double, but was two singles joined together. TV also in this room.

Bathroom was a good size. washbasin, toilet, bidet & stand-alone shower. Adequate toiletries provided.

Finish in the room was only thing to let it down, probably most noticeable in the bathroom. There were some gaps around the tiling where the taps were in the walls (basin & shower), some grouting missed completely, little things like that.

Should mention that there was not an iron in the room.

Individual room temperature worked well, I happened to be there on one of the coldest nights in the area for a long time, wasn't too noisy either.

Also, free internet access was excellent, good fast & strong connection

View from the room was fine, overlooked some housing a fair distance away, french doors from both the living room & bedroom onto a small patio area, beyond that was a further small grass area. All had a covering of snow when I was there though so didn't sit out.

Unfortunately I did not make breakfast the next morning. Located downstairs in the building that has reception.

Check-out (same receptionist) was as pleasant and effective as check-in.

In summary, if there was a 3+ score that's what I'd probably score this hotel. I'd certainly stay again if I had the need to stay over in this area again. Perhaps I'd get the opportunity to use some more of the hotels facilities also.

We stayed here for 1 night before a flight from Ciampino. This hotel has loads of potential, but it seems to be a hotel in decline. The fixtures and fittings were probably once very nice but have been allowed to deteriorate, the shower was rickety and difficult to use and there was a good layer of limescale in the loo! The bar was not a bar, it had very little to drink, running out of beer (we only had 1 bottle of corona each), and the barman only served when he felt like it, preffering to chat to his friends. He disappeared every time you sat down making it very difficult to get another drink, even if there had been anything left! The bar then closed at 10.30 on a Saturday!
We were on the ground floor right next to reception and it didn't feel very safe. There were 4 very noisy individuals in the reception area for most of the night, they were very noisily moving in and out of the building, dancing, singing, shouting. Instead of asking them to return to their rooms the staff simply joined in the festivities. This seemed to go on until at least 3am!
On the plus side the breakfast was quite good and the staff in the morning were much better, but despite this I wouldn't stay again!

Room Tip: Away from reception.
