Review of Saana

Recommended length of visit: More than 3 hours
Owner description: This recognizable fell is located in the village of Kilpisjarvi. You can climb to the top of the fell (1029m) along a trail which starts at the Kilpisjarvi tourist centre. Scrambling up to the top of Saana is a challenge worth doing. The longest set of stairs in Finland helps you at the steepest part of the four kilometer journey. From the top of the Saana you can see for miles!

“Amazing views are just a couple of hours away”
Reviewed July 23, 2014

We climbed Saana in July 2014, on a hot and sunny day. The experience was something to recommend for everyone. The climb itself was pretty easy and it took us about two hours up and 1,5h down. The trail was well marked with wooden poles and in July there were also quite a few other hikers there. Views are just spectacular to every direction! We'll definately visit Saana again, more time also the adjacent Malla, both easily accessible from the Kilpisjärvi camping centre.

“The legendary finnish "mountain" Saana”
Reviewed June 23, 2014

We went to the top of Saana now in June and it was snowing all the time and the temperature was about minus 5 degrees. A wonderful experience! The nature is so different compared to anything in Finland. Just rocks and mountains.

“Best Nature View in Finland”
Reviewed April 28, 2014

This is definitely the best location in Finland. When you climb this Mountain, the views are spectacular. There are many stairs to climb, but it is denitely worth it.

This trip takes few hours. Even the the trail is pretty steep, it is still safe journey.

“Worth the climb”
Reviewed November 9, 2013

We visited Kilpisjärvi on october 2013. As we stayed at Kilpisjärvi camping area it was very easy for us to visit Saana too. The very well marked hiking track starts right from the camping area. You really can´t get lost, it´s that clear.

After a small forest you come to the beginning of long wooden stairs that take you some 750 steps up hill. After that the way to the top turns into a small trail in the rocky terrain. Again the way is well marked with coloured rocks.

It took us just under 2 hours to get to the top (and we had our 7 and 10 year old children with us). The view is very nice from there.

Keep in mind that it can be chilly up there. And have at least some water with you when you go.
