“Too many Tourists”
Reviewed September 22, 2013

We went on the 6.30 bus from Cabanaconde and Im glad we made it before the tours. The canyon setting was gorgeous, but as soon as the tours arrived, you were literally squished against one another. There had to be over 100 people on this little lookout! We only ended up seeing 2 condors (and although beautiful birds), people thought it neccesary to whistle and call to them instead on being peaceful. As is, there is less and less birds flying because of the noise! Im glad we did not have to stay for tour and could leave when we want, as some tours stayed for hours when the birds only come for 20min or so.
Its beautiful to see, but a shame its not more natural and less intimidating.

“If you like condors, a (crowded) must-see”
Reviewed September 7, 2013

This is the best place to watch condors in Colca Canyon, because there is a nest near. It's nice to see many condors, the largest bird in the world - and that is the main reason for hundreds of tourists visiting the place. It gets really crowded after 8:30 am (which is also the best time to see the condors, between 8 am and 9:30 am). If you're in Cabanaconde it's very easy and cheap to reach this place, there are many buses coming and going (to come back, the bus passes between 9 and 9:20 am at cruz del condor). If you come to colca canyon, don't miss it!

“They're vultures...”
Reviewed September 3, 2013

Not a whole lot else to say, really. Freezing your proverbial off to watch some vultures fly around. Not my idea of a reward for getting up at 3:15am. The requisite "handycraft" stalls selling not-handmade, not-baby-alpaca tat. Billions of other tourists clambering over the top of you, some other stalls selling snacks of an indeterminate age and that's about it. I had 55 minutes to "enjoy" the experience. It's a LONG way from Arequipa for not a whole lot.

“Many Condors”
Reviewed August 19, 2013

We again, were the lone visitors and were very happy to see many condors out riding the up drafts. They actually flew very close over our heads. While walking the path we also saw a hawk and many wildflowers and other birds.
