We were blessed with a mostly fine day and tried and succeeded in walking around most of the garden. The whole place is breathtaking in the variety and beauty of its layout and the plants and foliage therein. It had been on my list of must-see places for quite a while and we finally made it there. It certainly didn't disappoint!
Great to see the care taken by staff and volunteers to keep it looking so well and that they are also in the process of renovating the Geological Gallery.
Now I've seen it in autumn, I'd very much enjoy a return visit at another season to see how planting and displays are timed to show their best at relevant times.
The café provided good fare, with some of the produce coming fresh from the on-site kitchen garden, which is located behind the main building and I believe is tended mostly by volunteers.

How this garden was ever envisaged, or completed, is an amazing feat. The national trust has done so much work over the last 26 years. We visited when it first opened to the public and have seen how work has progressed. Good fun for children too. The dahlia walk is beautiful in summer.

What a stunning place, a real treasure. Around each corner of the garden lies a different vista. Obviously all who look after the gardens have a real passion for the place. Also good to see it busy every time we visit. Speak to the lady in the fossil corridor and let her tell a ghost story or two!
