We stayed at this hotel as part of an organised tour. Our tour group manager advised us to order oxygen from reception if we were suffering from altitude sickness, which I was bigtime (this hotel is at very high altitude). So I ordered my oxygen, and waited, and waited, and waited...and gave up. It never came. However, on the plus side, the bed was very comfortable for someone in my state, and our arranged buffet meal in the evening was fine.

Dear Guest,

Thank you for the time you set aside to share your experience on Trip Advisor. We very much regret that altitude sickness affected your visit at Colca town and apologize if we did not respond promptly to your needs during your stay with us.

As well, thank you for the opportunity you give us to improve by highlighting those service issues that might need more attention from us. We sincerely invite you to stay at any of our other 16 properties in Peru in the near future to offer you the real Casa Andina experience.

Kind regards,

The Casa Andina team

On our 23 daytrip to Peru we arranged several stops at Casa Andina properties. When we reached the Colca Valley, we had already stayed at a property in Arequipa. The property itself is set a few blocks from the center of the Colca Valley town of Chivay which is an interesting place to shop and stroll. <it is quite safe. Our room was clean and furnished in a rustic style with adequate room for two. The staff was helpful and assisted us in getting picked up in Puno the next day at the bus station. We also booked a Colca Canyon Tour through Casa Andina which included a trip to the Condor crossing and to thermal baths (5 soles) as well as to a nearby town, Maca and other stops. Meals were not included. We did have dinner at the Colca property and it was a decent buffet but much more expensive than what we had paid for similar fare elsewhere in Peru. The Colca property, as does the one in Arequipa caters to the tour companies who bring loads of tourists in.

Was a nice place to stay at the end of the day-long trip from Arequipa. Rooms were basic and clean, but with no upscale amenaties (no TV for example). Still, grounds were immaculate, good was decent, lobby had free internet, a cozy lounge and fireplace, and a decent bar. VERY early wake up call was right on time and checkout was hassle free. Hard to find anything to complain about.

We spent one night in this hotel in August 2008. It is quite centrally located in the village of Chivay, the capital of the whole Colca region.

The hotel is distributed through very nice stone-made bungalows, with lots of charm.

Rooms are basic, with no television, no minibar and no further facilities, but they are clean and ok.

Typical peruvian show at night in the restaurant.

The Casa Andina Colca Hotel is located in Chivay, a small village in the Colca Canyon. I booked my room there in Arequipa, as part of a two-day tour to Colca Canyon.

The rooms are in small bungalows and are very nice and clean. The bedroom is equipped with a small heater. While heating does not seem to be available in most other hotels in Chivay, it is quite useful given the high altitude and the temperatures during the night. Unfortunately, there is no heating in the bathroom.

I would definitely recommend the Casa Andina for a trip to Colca Canyon.

We booked the hotel directly though the Casa Andina 800 # on there website. We stayed only 1 night for $83 USD per person, this includes transportation from Arequipa to the hotel, Colca Canyon to see the giant condors and various stops throughout the 2 days. It also includes the guides. They picked us up at 8AM in Arequipa, a small van of 9 people total. We stopped en-route to view wild Vicunias, Lamas and Alpacas. Another stop was a short break for some local coca tea as we got higher in altitude. We stopped at the highest point of 15,000 feet to shop and take in more sights. The scenery was breath taking during the 4 hour trip. The hotel is very clean and comfortable, the staff was great. The giant condors were amazing. Our guide took us off the beaten path of all the other tourists to view the condors, at one point they were less than 20 feet from us. The only downside of the entire trip to Colca Canyon was the unpaved dusty road, but other than that it totally a great place to visit and stay.

We stayed for two nights in August 2007. The hotel is in the small town of Chivay, in the valley, surrounded by mountains. The setting is stunning.
The rooms are little chalet bungalows in the grounds and are very rustic looking. We went in Peru's winter months and found the tiled floors and lack of heating challenging. Take your slippers and extra socks!! The room was very cold when we arrived, but gradually warmed up onces the oil filled radiator was plugged in. The bathroom remained like Siberia - only a shower so no bath to lounge in to warm you up. The beds were very comfortable, with extra alpaca blankets to keep you warm.
One of us was very ill with a combination of food poisoning (not from this hotel) and altitude sickness and the hotel were excellent in providing hot water bottles (litterally wine bottles filled with hot water!!, but very effective) and calling a doctor. If you are struck down with something or really struggling with the effects of altitude we'd recommend you call a doctor sooner rather than later - they can work miracles! You can request oxygen in the rooms - ten minutes will give you a real boost and get rid of any headaches.
The gardens were beautiful and were enhanced by the backdrop of the mountains.
The buffet dinner is fine and there is music and dancing each evening.
The fire in the main lounge is nice.
We definitely recommend a trip to the hot springs - not to be missed.
