McElroy"s Irish Pub
Ranked #24 of 30 Restaurants in Chivay
Price range: $0 - $15
Cuisines: Contemporary
Description: This was a wonderful casual dining restaurant located in the Colca Canyon area of Peru. We found the restaurant to be very clean. We went there late one night...were the only ones there....but yet the owner was very willing to turn on the oven and make us wonderful pizza. I am told it is pretty rare when they actually have Guiness there but none the less, my daughter in the Peace Corps close by there believes it to be the best food offered in Chivay.

This restaurant is like a through back to your college years. Dingy with writing on all the walls and the pool table. We had soup and fries. They were both good - not great and not up to Peru standards. In Nazca they chicken soap has almost half a chicken in it. Here the soup was close to canned with small slices of chicken and some spaghetti noodles thown in. The fries were good considering our altitude. The cost relative to Peru prices was high. And the final straw is they had NO WIFI. An earlier review mentioned wifi but today NONE.

Until we'd been to this pub, we'd never had bad soup anywhere in Peru. The soup was salted beyond being edible- we had to send it back. The owners were nice enough to comp the soup and send over chocolates to apologize. But it's mediocre, overpriced...but it is the only place in town with wi-fi!

We were told that this place was good, but for us it was very basic with average overpriced food. As for an Irish pub, well theres nothing Irish about that place except its name.

The owners are great. Try the avocado and tomato salad! The upstairs is quieter than downstairs. The drink options are many. If you are looking for a change from traditonal Peruvian food, try the pizzas - they are a lot of different kinds!
