Great stay at this cozy, private and super-clean home. Location can't be beat! As our family is big and loud, I was worried about noise and convenience. The neighborhood is very quiet at night and helped us to sleep easily. The owners were so accommodating as our group increased from 15-20 people. Ample parking for the whole extended family! The house itself was immaculate and every single room was specifically decorated with the utmost comfort in mind! It really felt like home, only better! We especially enjoyed the hot tub and the welcoming wine bottles when we walked in!!! The night time firepit was the the best that my family enjoyed, since it was so peaceful and we were able to enjoy each other's company without worrying about being too loud or neighbours complaining! Overall the amenities exceeded our expectations! Thanks Andy and Monique for making our stay so memorable and certainly looking forward to booking next month again to soak in the beautiful fall colours and peaceful serenity!
Amazing place and Amazing hosts! We normally don't write reviews much but this place just needed to be described. It was beyond all expectations. The pictures do not do it justice. It is much bigger than in the pictures. Super clean, super organized and has everything you need. You just need to bring your clothes and food. They had everything. Even spices and coffee/tea, shampoo, soap, shower gel, you name it. Even cotton, Q-tips and garbage bags!
The sheets smell heavenly and the towels are the same!
You just need to bring towels for the pool. But otherwise, all towels are also provided. Even kitchen towels and paper towels! We normally bring items like toilet paper and paper towels and water bottles but we ended up not even using them. The water is filtered and pure! The salt water pool was tons of fun with all kind of pool toys and even loungers. The kids loved the firepit. We were a group of 21 and everyone had a chair around the fire pit. Wood was already cut for us. We did not even need to go buy any. We loved eating outdoors. There were 2 pic nic tables and a third foldable one with benches as well. We did not feel overcrowded as the had 3 living rooms, 2 TVs, and 3 full washrooms so nobody had to wait.
The hosts were so nice. They left us 4 bottles of wine and pasta and kraft dinner for the kids. they answered all our questions. When we asked for ideas on activities, Monique sent us various links. We were provided with documents that described everything in the house down to the Oven, and TV remote control. They are very friendly and family oriented. We met them and felt as if we knew them for a long time. We felt right at home and this is what made our experience even better. This cottage is so far the best one we ever rented and we will definitely come back! We highly recommend this place to all!
Andy and Monique, thank you so much for allowing us to rent your place. You made us feel great! It was 4 days to remember!
Very good. Excellent place for big families.. we all enjoyed this place .. only few below little points which we have to compromise.
1) Limited internet access
2) Basement is cold
3) Garbage disposal
But still we can say that it is best place ..
Wasn't easy to find a cottage that could accommodate 15 people who love enjoying Ontario's natural beauty until we found Dorset's best kept secret.
What started off as 15 family members quickly became 20. The owners were very accommodating and extremely friendly. The cottage is very large and clean!!! The smell of the outside fresh air can only be rivaled by the smell of fresh linen inside.
Kids and adults enjoyed the gorgeous swimming pool, bbq and the most amazing bonfires at night.
Definitely our new family winter and summer getaway.
We rented this cottage for a week of July 28 , 2017
We chose this cottage for it's wheelchair access and size to accommodate our party of 10 people - our parents, and 2 couples with small kids. The cottage itself is really good and despite few uncomfortable things, which we were not aware of, we enjoyed our time there for the most part of our vacation. The problems began right after we left.
First of all and the main reason for our discomfort was the fact, that there are CAMERAS installed everywhere around the house. We have not been told and it was not written in description. We felt like we are part of some reality show and we've been watched by someone all the time. It gave us creeps. Because of this, we felt uncomfortable inside the house too, changing clothes, taking shower, maybe some hidden cameras watching inside too. Of course we were not sure if someone is REALLY watching us until we left the cottage and started to chat with the owner and after she said we forgot to turn off the LED light around fire pit area and we had too many guests in the house, we understood that was not just suspicion. We indeed had friends coming and leaving, but that was family vacation with our parents who came for a short visit to Canada and for some of our friends that was the only chance to meet them. Needless to say we kept number of people in the cottage at any given time as 10 or less, if someone was going back to the city for work during the week, only then another person was coming instead or coming only for the day and leaving.
On the last day we spent about 3 hours cleaning and vacuuming, and washing the floors, and picking up all the small peaces of garbage possibly left behind inside and around the house. According to the owner cleaning was included in the price but we wanted to leave it tidy. We've read house rules that allow to leave garbage bags for additional fee and we decided to keep all the garbage (about 6 black bags and 2 boxes with empty beer bottles) and pay the fee of 50-60$.
The house itself was full of small and fragile items, like small toys, glass vases, flowers, books, figurines etc placed everywhere - on the windows, tables, around hot tub, on the fireplace. Items that attract little kids. We tried to avoid any damage and had put vases on the top of the fridge or inside the cabinets.
Once we left the cottage, we send the owner message saying we would like to book it again for the next year and trying to get our deposit of 1000$ back. This is when the fun part began.
We were accused of stealing the vase. Of leaving the mess. Of additional one hour her cleaning lady needed to spend to clean. She started to send us pictures of rice crispy's wrap she had found in one of the washrooms behind the garbage bin (you are not allowed to eat in the rooms, but our kid did eat and we missed that). She told we didn't turn led light around fire pit area at night, we brought extra guests, we forgot to empty garbage bin in one of the washrooms, we stained white towels and she cant wash it. She blamed us we left too many garbage bags and didnt warn her, so her cleaning lady needed to drive twice to dispose it. And stolen vase again, and she spoke really not nice. Now we cooked only on BBQ, and used all the propane (1.5 tanks) We did go and refill it, but she said that was a courtesy on the first place she left us the propane tank full. She accused us of burning the BBQ. What not. She started to send us invoices for towels, and vase, and extra things she paid. Than later she did find the vase in the kitchen cabinet, so she deducted 35$ from the invoice, but still charged us extra one hour for the cleaning. Really?
We paid $3000 for a week. Needless to say we are NOT coming back there.
It is a very quite place near lakes. The decoration is great with wood stove and hot pub. There are all branches of BBQ equipment. Very good cottage for family and friends group trip. Would come back next time!
