We stopped at Windlestraw Lodge on our way to meet friends in Edinburgh in mid October. We specifically chose Windlestraw Lodge because of the great reviews of the food - so nice to stay somewhere and be able to get a great meal and not have to worry about driving. The rooms were lovely and the food was great, both dinner and breakfast. The hosts, Julie and Alan were very welcoming and it was really nice to sit and have a glass of (very good) wine in front of the fire, made only better when the dogs were allowed to join us for a while! When leaving we were also provided with a recommendation to a great restaurant in the area we were just about to visit. thanks very much for the warm hospitality.

From the moment we arrived at Windlestraw Lodge to meet up with friends on 2 November 2012 we knew we were in good hands. The gentle fragrance from the log burning fire immediately took the chill of the cold evening air. And with the warm reception of our hosts, Allan and Julie, we soon felt at home.
Our room, The McIntosh, was stunning. Spacious, elegantly appointed and very comfortable.
The cuisine was exceptional. Our five course dinner offered a variety of mouth watering tastes, cooked to perfection and professionally presented. And after an excellent night's sleep, the sumptuous breakfast (including porridge as it should be!) was no less a feast.
As we prepared to leave the next day, the enchanting morning views across the misty Tweed to the rich autumnal hillsides beyond rounded off to perfection a very enjoyable and memorable escape.
Magic.

My wife and I stayed here on the evening of the 20/10/12 for our anniversary with the aim of getting away from the hustle and bustle of modern life – what a great decision, as this place is fantastic. The owners, Julie and Alan, are first class hosts, the house is gorgeous and the food is just amazing.
Every single plate of the five-course meal was pleasing to the eye, a pleasure to the nose and an absolute carnival to the taste buds. We have eaten at lots of restaurants in the country but this was truly special and definitely on a par with other top Chef venues.
Our room, the Willison, was beautifully presented and extremely comfortable. The views from the house are great and the smell around the public rooms from the log burning fire gives a true old-fashioned homely feeling.
This place is stunning – give it a go, you’ll love it. We will be back

Room Tip: The Willison is great but I'm sure it doesn't matter

We recently attended my brothers wedding which took place at WindleStraw Lodge and we had the priviledge to stay for two nights. The venue is warm and welcoming and the hosts make you feel really at home. The food served is out of this world and the views from every window were superb! I could not fault anything during our stay and nothing seemed too much trouble to the two hosts/proprietors. I would thoroughly recommend this venue to anyone who is looking for a relaxing and enjoyable break or to celebrate a special occassion ranging from a wedding to a birthday or an anniversary.

Room Tip: All six rooms are decorated to a very impressive and tasteful standard.

We stayed here to break up our long trip back from the top of Scotland and what a great find. A very warm welcome, nothing was too much trouble and as we were the only guests staying (it was mid week) our hosts laid out a lovely intimate table in the small conservatory. The food is of a very high standard and the rooms very well appointed but it is not a stuffy hotel and you can completely relax and switch off. Views over the Tweed are wonderful and we will be coming back in the not too distant future.

Room Tip: All rooms are lovely!
