“Experience it for yourself ;)”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 28, 2013

Having spent a couple of weekends at the anglers rest ( in my campervan on the carpark f.o.c.) and using the pub with friends on one wknd occasion to raise money for charity i can only say what wonderful hosts beryl and graham are inc. their staff. Yes the beer might be a few pence dearer than my local but it is kept and presented well as were the drinks my partner and daughter were served. We have only had bar meals but again quality at a good price. Regards dogs and a wecome for hikers, there is a room of comfort for hikers with dirty boots/gear and their dogs ( not many places i know like this and i do travel a lot and have 3 dogs) in the main room their own two dogs do wonder round but at no time have we known even when eating do they bother you, this is nice to see. If i had read some of the reviews here before hand i would have steered clear, i am only grateful that i experienced the anglers rest myself.

“No 'Dragons' Around”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 14, 2013

I don’t know where the dreaded Beryl was when we visited this little pub the other lunchtime, but all seemed peaceful and quiet. Yes. The dog that other contributors have complained about was slumped in its basket behind the bar, but there was also a very friendly and cheerful young lady behind the bar, who provided us with a prawn bun and a tuna bun and the required drinks, which we enjoyed outside subject to a bit of wasp swatting. I’m going back next year for dinner so watch this space.

“Okish food”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 13, 2013

Been here a couple of times the food is ok, but nothing to write home about. Avoid in snow as likely to get stuck. Nice walk down the road. Drinks are ok but over priced. Not much room to sit outside and rather loud from the main road above.

“the chef should be ashamed”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 29, 2013

Went there for lunch while in the area walking for a few days, the chilli was possibly the worst thing I have ever seen and tasted from a plate. The barmaid was reaaly friendly, but seemed to be living in fear of the boss or the chef. The beer was good but there is no way should that chef be allowed to be serving or cooking food anywhere, even to there own family

“Back again!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 5, 2013

Re-visited the Anglers rest with my parents and family during our annual family holiday. Opted to book for pie night on Thursday evening. Food again was brilliant, the adults all had steak and ale pie with chips and veg, my older son had Haddock and chips and the youngest had goujons and chips with beans. The pie was lovely, home cooked and very good value at £9.95 including a pudding. There was plenty to choose from including treacle sponge, jam rolypoly, chocolate sponge, ice cream etc. The six empty plates at the end said it all. Fine dining it isn't and if that's what you are after this isn't the place for you, it's not a posh restaurant! It is a very old fashioned little pub, but it is clean and very friendly. The bar staff were all very friendly and the landlady Beryl is very nice... Not rude as other reviews have said. Drinks were all reasonably priced and my husband enjoyed the summer blond beers on offer( and the price...so much cheaper than at home)
we always visit the pub on holiday and have always enjoyed it!
