We took my disabled daughter for her birthday. Her mobility is not great but she got round the whole farm with no problems.
She enjoyed 3 rides on the horse and cart and was given the offer of sitting up front on the cart but she decided she didn't want to.
She loved the tractor ride and laughed all the way round on the tractor and trailor even though it was raining.
She didn't use the Indoor play area or the outside park due to her being to tall.
She helped to feed the pigs and goats and just before we left she was given the chance to feed all of the horses, which she absolutely loved and kept going back for more baskets of food before the member of staff got to them.
The staff were friendly, helpful and very knowledgeable on the horses and their history.
All in all it made a fabulous day out for her 15th Birthday and we will be going back again.

A nice change to some of the more well known local children’s activity farms the Heavy Horse Centre make a great day out.

Small and compact it’s easy to navigate around with enough animals and distractions to last a good 5 hours on a dry day. The setting is idyllic (great views while ice cream eating), the staff informative and friendly and the heavy horses are fab (worth going to hear the talk on them).

Included in the entry price are tractor/trailer rides, horse and wagon rides and driving a tractor, with assistance of course (and if you are tall enough and our 3.5 year old was). And the usual meet and hold pet animals.

It was all very informal and very much ‘come and get me when you want to...’ which was great. Not sure if this is how they work it on a busy day but the day we went was quiet (surprising as Bank Holiday weekend).

The little cafe offers a small menu of sandwiches and some hot food. Although not an extensive choice the food was good. My only comments are that ordering was a bit slow – hopefully on a busy day there would be more staff. And that the kiddies box came with fruit – unfortunately that was a Granny Smith apple so far too big for our one-year-old to tackle and our three-year-old spent far too long trying to nibble the ‘giant’ apple. Perhaps smaller apples or other small fruit or pieces would be better. Food came quickly though and was nice.

Definitely worth the trip and we will be going back.

Two seniors, one adult and one 8 year-old all had a wonderful day out at Dorset Heavy Horse Farm Park. If you love these beautiful creatures do go along and see them, feed them, pet them, find out more about them at one of the talks throughout the day. If horses aren't quite your thing, there are plenty of other things to keep you entertained. Drive the tractor or go mad on the pedal go-carts or play in the huge bouncy castle - probably best for the younger members of your party! Or just go and pet the rabbits (they have a litter of babies at the moment - 7 May 2014). Or feed the goats or the adorable Shetland ponies or the Gentle Giants who are the stars of this attraction. We were so impressed with the care shown by all the lovely staff we met here. Special mentions to Richard, Helen and Alice and the lovely young man on the tractor rides whose name we didn't catch - thank you all for a wonderful day. Just one small suggestion for improvement - could you have home made soup in the cafe, all the other food was great?

Milly, I have loved my day out at the Heavy Horse Farm. My Sister also loved riding in the Shetland horse and cart. The best part was when I sat in the front seat of the Shire horse ride.
Daddy, this was a great day out aided by lovely sunny weather. We all had plenty of things to do and the place was very relaxed. We arrived at opening time and stayed till closing time something we rarely do on a day out as we had such a nice time. It has plenty of other animals and other attractions also plenty of play areas for kids young and old. The staff were all very friendly with nothing being too much bother. I would only say that although the staff were excellent the food in the cafe wasn't exceptional at the prices being charged but in all fairness I've paid higher prices at other attractions for similar food. All in all a great day out with lots to do. Will be coming back again very soon.
