We visited with our two boys aged 3 & 6. U thought we would spend a couple of hours however we ended up spending most of the day.

On entering I thought it was quite expensive for what I thought we were about to experience but in hindsight after spending the day I would say it was worth the money.

Yes the place looks tired and probably a shadow of its former self but this goes to show that it is a not for profit organisation and the funds go to the animals.

The owner was extremely knowledgable and if listened to it was obvious that his sole purpose was to ensure that the children were entertained throughout the day.

The negative comments have come from people who didnt give the place a chance.

If you are expecting legoland ... Go to legoland if you want a grounded fun day out come here.

Thank you very much the boys loved it

We have had a fantastic day at the Dorset Heavy Horse Farm. We arrived just after 10 and left at 3.30. There is so much going on, we managed to sit down for lunch which was very tasty, but apart from that the children didn't stop, and we have not managed to do everything. Excellent value for money and extremely interesting for all ages.

A really fun, enjoyable and interesting family day out! The staff were knowledgeable and friendly, the work they are doing with the horses is fantastic and there's so much to do for the kids - the got to go on pony and cart rides, tractor rides, a pony ride, drive a tractor, hold a rabbit etc! Really great and varied!
Lunch in the cafe was lovely, fresh and home cooked and really great value for money!

Tucked away on a country lane just outside of the new forest is Dorset Heavy Horse centre.
For those with children who love horses and or tractors this is definitely the place for them.
The horses (of which there are many) are all huge, friendly and love the attention. Many of them are rescue horses and quite Magnificent. The knowledge of the centre's owner and his humour when explaining about the history and strength of the horses gives this place it's charm. With ponies big and little and cart rides for groups and a personal cart ride from Cinderella is a must and daughter number one loved it.
Tractor pedal rides, pet and pony grooming and pony rides as well as getting to drive a working tractor.
Great outdoor and indoor play areas.
Cafe is nice but not very appealing or tasty kids menu, however Adults are catered for.
A nice day out for Younger children and grandparents. Teenagers might get a bit

Saw a brochure for this place in our hotel & thought we'd take a chance to drop in on our way back to Wales as my husband loves horses. What a fab surprise we had. It was £7.95 for adults & £7.50 for children, also a family saver ticket. When we arrived we went into the stable yard where the brilliantly entertaining & knowledgeable Richard told us the history of how each horse came to be there & children took each of them a bucket of feed. We were then shown how to saddle Sultan! He was then harnessed & took groups of 6 on wagon rides around the park. This was just the beginning. There was a Shetland pony taking little ones for rides. Youngsters also got the chance to pet & groom the little Shetland ponies. There were more horses, donkeys, sheep, goats & alpacas which you could feed. There was the opportunity to ride/drive a tractor. There were gypsy wagons giving an insight into the horses, wagons & way of life. On top of this there was a drop slide, play barn for toddlers & older children, go karts, children's vintage fair rides, a straw barn, snow dogs, rabbits. The list is endless & it was just an amazing & unexpected surprise. Can't recommend the place highly enough for toddlers to grandparents. Go & have fun!
