“Great Park, quiet in the fall”

Rock Point Provincial Park
Ranked #1 of 15 things to do in Dunnville

Small park. Some great sites. Some close to the beach. Some of the sites are out in the open, no big trees and you can see your neighbour.
Other sites are more private.
New washrooms.
Very quiet in the fall. The park is an older one and sites need some work. They need to backfill with gravel.
Some of the sites need a rest. Very worn down.
Bird banding site at the park. saw many birds, saw how they are caught. Awesome volunteers who give their time 6 days/week.
Free admission to watch bird banding.

Rock Point is a pretty little park on Lake Erie that offers some decent car camping - that is, driving right up to your site and pitching a tent on the spot. This is not backcountry camping, and so I'm rating it for what it is - it isn't there to compete with a bigger backcountry park like Lady Evelyn Smoothwater, Algonquin, or the Massassauga, and if I were to rank it against those it would get a much lower score. But those parks aren't for everyone, or for every occasion.

Rock Point offers lots of camp sites, including ones for RVs and ones for the tent crowd. The main attractions (for me anyway) were the waterfront, which varies from sandy beach to rocky shoals with lots of intriguing fossils, and the gorgeous Carolinian forest. There are lots of spots here for great pictures, and some nice, light hikes along the shores and through the trees.

It's good for a day-trip, or a one-nighter. I wouldn't stay longer than that as it is, like I mentioned, a small park.

For the traveler that does not camp too much, this place is good.
Has bathroom facilities with electricity and lots of lots.
If you are an avid camper, you will probably not be too excited about it.
Lots of prairie areas and not well sheltered with trees and privacy.
Cheap fire wood en route to it.
Beach close by.
14dollars for extra cars (2 allowed) which is a day pass.

Campsites are too close together to give that relaxing outdoors feeling. You knew your neighbours business and they got to know yours.

Come morning the entire park smelled like an outhouse.

The toilets are individual rooms with the mirror and sink inside. There were line-ups for the occupied toilets because people were putting on make-up and blow drying their hair. Most campgrounds alleviate this problem by having the hand washing station outside.

The staff appeared to be under-trained. They lacked a working knowledge of the park and the appropriate customer service skills for their position.

For some reason the rangers patrol the campground in a pick-up truck. Going 20km/h in a truck is a great way to burn through gas. They should be supplied with a golf cart style vehicle that doesn't require so much energy. Bikes could even work. Some of the chunkier rangers look like they could use the exercise.

Clean, nice area and still close to everything civilized. Everything you could want and more plus being on Lake Erie (warmer water than Lak Ontario).
