The Agip Restaurant is tucked between a Shell petrol station and other commercial buildings spreading out from Mbarara to Masaka. The staff were not up to the usual high standards of Uganda, just adequate, think Travel Lodge. However the beer was cold, the food hot and tasty (we recommend the curry and the tilapia), and we enjoyed a thunderous rain storm which obliterated traffic noise. Best in the evening I suspect. Take a look at the website for a fuller picture.

The Motel Agip is for sure one of the best places in Mbarara to eat.
The best of this restaurant is that it offers a nice and calm environment outside Mbarara's confusion. The quality of the food is according to the prices charged.
On the other hand, it takes a lot of patience to deal with most of the staff. They don't seem worried to provide a good service to their costumers.
Is just an average restaurant, but it's one of the best in Mbarara.

Try The buffet lunch, which is acceptable. Hard to find another place where you can eat 'safe food'.
Don't expect much and you will not Be disappointed.
Clean place. Nothing more, Nothing less.

This is a roadside motel catering to passing travelers in and out of Uganda so you get a non-caring service. The receptionist will robotically answer your questions. The staff at the restaurant will size you up and stare at you like you should not bother them with whatever they are doing or talking about.. You will be directed to the toilet if you want to wash your hands. The food is blunt and and takes a while to show up on your table.

Was planning to spend a night, thank God I decided to check out another place.

Having come from a very rural posting I found Mbarara noisy and smelly.
Motel Agip is a haven of peace in comparison. Despite being on the main road into Mbabara from Masaka (and so easy to access) it is relatively quiet. The service is good and friendly, prices reasonable and the food good. The toilets are spotless.
What more can one want?
