Owner description: Fowlsheugh's cliffs come alive from April to July when more than 100,000 seabirds return to their summer home to breed. Kittiwakes, guillemots, razorbills, fulmars and gulls provide a sight, sound and smell experience like no other. All with a good chance of spotting a puffin too! There's a two-mile walk along the cliff tops with fabulous sea views to a beautiful look out shelter. Paths can be slippery and muddy, so please dress appropriately and take care as you walk along the unprotected cliff tops.

You really have to watch out for the signs or take a map as it is no longer widely advertised.Down a long narrow lane with lots of potholes. It has a lot of seabirds including puffins. Limited car parking.Ranger there most times of the year.

Hi,

Thanks for giving us a five star review!

Just wanted to clarify for anyone reading that our volunteers are at Fowlsheugh to talk to visitors from May-July (typically Sat and Sun afternoons), so there's unlikely to be anyone there during autumn and winter. If you want to visit when there's someone from the RSPB then check the website for our spring guided walks or give us a call.

What a lovely scenic place. Would definitely recommend it. Taking your camera is a must. The footpath was quite dry and dusty the day of our trip so trainers were fine, but I suspect walking shoes or boots may be called for as it could get slippery after some rain. The path looked like the grass had recently been strimmed short so it is a well looked after site.

The walk along the path at the top of the cliffs isn't too long, but you will keep stopping to either look at the views or to take pictures. The views are stunning but when walking above the rookeries be prepared for a pungent smell of guano!!!!

What a great place.

Walk along the cliff top and see kittiwakes, rock doves, eider duck, cormorants, gulls and other species close up. They are a great sight and make a fantastic noise when you are near their rookeries

There is a hide and several benches to sit and take in the views

The mud had all dried up and the site was easily accessible provided you are able bodied. Its not suitable for folk in wheelchairs or for buggies etc. I would also be reticent about taking more than a couple of kids as the cliff edge is bare without any form of railing

Bird breeding season from April & still some birds lingering till September. Be sure to look out for butterflies, moths and smaller mammals such as shrew as you make your way along the path.

Great place to go for a walk. Huge amounts of wildlife. Nice coastal path with wildflowers. Good hide recently been built as well.
