“2 night stay was fine but they need to spend some money on the hotel”
Reviewed June 15, 2014

Will deal with the down first. Entering the hotel is like entering a dark cave the decor is so dark. Saw no-one working on reception during our stay. Checked in with the bar maid who was very nice and helpful. Room surprisingly bright and clean although the standard of workmanship re decorating and furnishing is very basic. Ensuite was black and brown, had a tiny shower cubicle with faulty doors, no towel rail or toilet roll holder. No mirror above the dressing table only a cheap shaving mirror and the stool for the dressing table was a small table ie from a nest. There was a patch around the light and on another part of the ceiling which needed painting and the curtains were hideous and certainly didn't match the colour scheme. There was no housekeeping service. We were asked on the first morning if we needed fresh towels but no-one cleaned the room or checked the toiletries etc. On the plus side the breakfast was excellent, piping hot and well cooked, the bedroom was clean and the bed comfy, we were only there two nights and spent little time In the room. I didn't think £75 was overpriced in this day and age but a little more attention to detail would make everything so much better.

Whilst I agree the hotel is hard to find, we had a lovely stay. OK there was no view from the room, the room was spotless, bed very comfy, even had ground coffee and a cafitierre in the room. I have to say that the breakfast was probably one of the best. Really nice staff - all in all appearances can be deceptive, and I would certainly stay again and highly recommend.

Room Tip: Ask for room with a sea view. We were in room 21 with absolutely no view

Good luck trying to find this hotel in the first place. There is no signage, just a bunch of hanging wires. Extremely bad first impression. Then comes the reception. The accommodation does not merit the price. The room I had a very small room overlooking a very disorganised yard. Very poor standard of decor throughout the accommodation block. The only plus side was the food.

Good luck trying to find this hotel in the first place. There is no signage, just a bunch of hanging wires. Extremely bad first impression. Then comes the reception. Ab stunning when the lights are on and you can actually see it, well apart from the rolls of carpet lying around. Why why why is this reception not being used?? Had to check in via the bar. We were given room 21. Lovely big bed ( 2 singles put together), in a tiny room. Small closet, cheap furniture and a nice 2 seater sofa. Mirror on sideboard was a shaving mirror that had seen better days. View from room was unbelievable, I will add photos. Ensuite was modern but again tiny. Corner shower was so small but really powerful and plenty hot water. No where to put anything, no toilet roll holder, no towel rail and no hooks. If hadn't already paid we would definitely have left but were both exhausted and hungry after a long drive so apprehensively headed to the bar for dinner. What a lovely surprise. Clean and modern, lovely friendly staff and food was amazing and reasonably priced. It was honestly like a completely different establishment. Breakfast was delicious served by a very friendly, perhaps overly friendly and slightly unprofessional waitress. At night the bar is a haven for all the young folks enjoying their weekend but wasn't for us. Website states all refurbishment would be completed by 2011. What a laugh if that's them finished and don't be looking for the advertised cinema, it doesn't exist! Much like most of their claims. Overall, I think they were aiming for a Rolls Royce when they actually could only afford a mini. Such a shame as it has huge potential. 2 stars are for the bar, food and staff. Glad we only had to endure 2 nights in the room. Won't be going back.

There has clearly been some effort put into improvements but in a haphazard way. A posh reception area (not staffed so you need to go to a busy bar to check in), well decorated room but no heating (cold at night despite asking the staff to fix) and a back office where you pay that looks as though its been un-touched in fifty years (yuck).

My porridge was good but the lady serving was more interested in reading the paper than a friendly good bye.

At £75 a night this "hotel" needs to decide if its a pub or a hotel and to take an organised way to improvements.

Room Tip: Stay somewhere else.

The poor standard of accommodation does not merit the price of £75.00 per night.Pay a bit extra and stay down at the hotels at the harbour. We had a very small room with a sea view but the windows were screwed shut, literally!!!! Torn wallpaper covered with masking tape, 3 holes on the bath rim, unsecured toilet bowl, no telephone in room. Very poor standard of decor in the accommodation block. The only plus side was the food
