Booked from Australia, sea view room requested.
Hotel opens from Public bar up a flight of thread bare stairs, along long dingy corridor, with delayed lighting with workmans footprints all over the ill fitting carpet, The room , window covered with birds toilets, wall paper ripped and didn't feel clean .
Explained that we couldn't stay there, no alternative offered.....but recieved a thank you email next day... a wasted £65.00, better value at B &B around the corner.

Room Tip: Book elsewhere, ..car woild be better.

The beautifully modernised, well supplied bedroom belied the unpromising street frontage. However it is all being renovated and should look great by the summer of 2011.

After arriving at the hotel with a party of four, we only had 1 key for two rooms. After over an hour they managed to find the second key. The house keeper then showed us to our rooms. We had been sent an email from the hotel showing us the lovely rooms that they had just recently refurbished with much excitement…… The front entrance should have left us suspicious.
The rooms were very, very, tatty to say the least. We had no hot water for the two days we were there, we could not open our window as it had been nailed shut!! Our friends room had a bathroom so small the sink was in the bedroom, when they tried to open the bathroom door in only opened half way as it banged onto the bed!! The rooms are directly above a night club that goes on in to the wee small hours.

What do I have to say that is positive!! The breakfast was very good. But most of all the staff worked very, very hard, and did the best with what they have. The rooms are very old but the bed was comfy, and clean. Would I go back? Only if I had 1 of the newer rooms. The hotel is in serious need of renovating- if and when this is done they could have a wee gem on their hands.

We were very disappointed by our stay after reading the more recent reviews. The room we had looked nothing like the ones on the website and was in need of doing up, damp on bathroom wall, room generally scruffy and not much room to move around - couldn’t fully open the bathroom door for the bed, small bottle of complimentary hair conditioner partly used, told by staff to run hot water tap in the sink to get hot water in the shower etc. However, the main issue was they have a disco underneath which goes on till 3 in the morning some nights. When we complained (as the floor, walls where vibrating with the noise) told nothing the staff could do as fully booked but that we should have been told when we booked. So before booking recommend you check if your room is above the disco first. On the plus side the food was very nice but overall would say the room we stayed in was a step up from a hostel but not as nice as a travel lodge so definitely not worth £100 per night over New Year or even the £65 usual price. Recommend you stay in one of the other hotels or charming B&Bs in Stonehaven but have a meal here.

Stayed here along with other members or our family for our nieces wedding, beautifully decorated room. Excellent beach view. Food was fantastic. Our party were still being offered breakfast in the late hours of the afternoon, staff couldn't do enough to help. Think this hotel has recently been taken over and undergone a lot of work. Will definitely be back.
