“Great!”
Reviewed October 19, 2012

Just returned Oct. 7, 2012 from the Grand Paradise. Considering it was off season, the right amount of people were at the hotel. For a reasonable price, I had a clean hotel. The hotel was older, and since I had requested a room close to all amenities, I was placed me in a unit that had not been renovated. The bed was comfortable, very clean, large bathroom with towels and plenty hot water and a great TV. All staff were pleasant, and the hotel food at the main buffet and poolside night was fantastic every day. Lots of fish and variety of meats, breads, vegetables, fruit and buffet desserts. I have travelled extensively, and this was one of my cheapest vacations, but one of the best I have enjoyed. It has a large quiet private beach with white sand. The surf is minimal so great for relaxing in the sunshine. I even enjoyed five nights of entertainment because it was better than average. I would most definately recommend this hotel, and would seriously like to go back. This would be a first for me. The only negative is the location, 11/2 hours from airport, but got there by air conditioned bus so no problem. The hotel has a gift store with many inexpensive items, and you can walk for 10 minutes into town for more. Excursions run from the hotel daily at reasonable rates. Thanks, Lynne from Orillia Ont.

Room Tip: Renovated rooms in the 8000's, but further from main areas.

Booked a last minute vacation with Westjet vacations and spent a week Sept 15- 22, 2012....
The facility itself was fine...Very clean and the food was adequate, lots of selection and variety. The staff where wonderful but make sure you can communicate in spanish or bring a dictionnary to help with communicating with staff. Or brush up on your sharade skills..... This hotel has additonal costs, such as a $15.00 cost if you would like to use the safe in your room. Also, they don't have WIFI, it's a minimal cost and they do have computer stations available. The grounds at this resort are so beautiful and well maintained. I feed the turtles and fish in the ponds daily and a duck that they have on site. They also provided entertainment nightly and it was very well put together. I enjoyed the beautiful weather and lazy afternoons on the beach, reading a book and just taking it easy. The days that I felt adventurous I did part take in the daily excursions, Samana has some wonderful sights. Did go into the local community on several occassions, small not much there but souvenirs, coffee or rhum is way cheaper at the local store then the hotel souvenir shop. Overall, for the cost~ this hotel and the vacation was well spent and I enjoyed my stay. It was a re- energizing vacation, no bells and whistle~

This Hotel is for those who want to have a relaxing vacation. Here is one of the rare places in the DR where no vendors come into the hotel property. You can really enjoy the beach and the beauty of the surroundings.
The people in the Resort are very friendly, helpful and very respectful.
The only concern that one would have to watch out is the food, and the cleanliness of the plates, utensils. The resort is very well kept and everything is very clean. The Food however is something to watch out for. I got really sick, and many others got really sick from the food. It is not kept well, either not hot enough or not cold enough. Other than that you would enjoy this resort very much.

Room Tip: The buuldings in the back of the resort provide, nicer and bigger rooms. These rooms are quiet and c...

Myself and husband stayed here from Sept. 01-Oct. 07. We stayed for 1 week, during low season, the hotel was nearly empty, except on weekends when the locals arrived. Rooms were spacious and clean. The maid did an excellent job cleaning the room. We enjoyed our stay. The staff was very friendly and helpful, the food and the beach were great. We had an excellent time. Do the tours, they are worth it, especially El Limon and the National Park. I didn't go on the others but I heard the zip line and Playa Rincon are great too. Buy your tours from Josea or Fermee from the taxi stand in front of the resort, the price is unbelievable.

We were a group of 5 women ages from 20's to 50's and a 1 year old baby. We traveled from the 23rd to the 30th of September. Check in went fairly smoothly for how many of us there were as there were several buses arriving at the same time. It was a long line at the hottest part of the afternoon but they did at least come around with cold drinks.
ROOMS: The rooms are clean and comfortable, but as others have mentioned they are beginning to show their are but this didn't bother us. However our toilet didn't flush and the maintenance guy had to come about 7 times before it would sort of flush but still ran all day! You will only receive one room key per room, it is 5$ a day for an extra key. The key runs the lights and air conditioner so when you leave the room the a/c is not on so when you return to your room its the same temperature as outside. I know this is done to conserve energy but it was very uncomfortable. We were traveling with a one year old and the resort was a little less then accessible with the stroller, I would not have wanted to be in a wheel chair at this resort.
FOOD: Food was good, little variety but we never went without. The a la cartes were good, I recommend going a couple nights during your stay to break up the repetitiveness of the buffet. The snack bar provides a lunch but it was never very good during our stay. The drinks all come from the same "slush" machine that is never slushy so it doesn't matter what drink you order, there are all the same. Drink the beer instead!
BEACH: The beach here is absolutely beautiful, white sand and turquiose waters. The beach is long but quite narrow so you will find your self having to put your lounger up on the grassy area. This was the slow season so there were always lots of chairs. The vendors are allowed right up on the resort which didn't bother us because as soon as you said no they walked away, they weren't harassing at all. My only complaint about the beach was the horse poop left behind by locals on their horses. I don't care at all that they walked through the resort but sometimes the poop was left for a couple days and smelt really bad. Also on 3 separate occasions 6 wild horses ran through the resort. Not on the beach but actually up on the grassy part of the resort, there was no one with them, very unsafe. We took the play pen to the beach and at one point there was about 200 red ants in it and swarms of hornets would show up, i would have brought bug spray had I have known.
POOLS: The pools were nice, go to the adult only one if you can, much quieter. We traveled on a Dominican holiday so the resort was full of Dominicans which was fine however there were a lot of kids splashing and throwing balls at you. I was traveling with my one year old you was swamped in the pool a few times.
OVERALL: We had a nice week, weather was great, food was decent and the rooms were clean. It was the slow season so there wasn't a lot of entertainment in the evenings but we completely understand that is not their busy time. The richer Dominicans who came in on both weekends were very pushy and very rude at the buffet, bars and check out. It turned us all off enough that we would not rush back to this resort during the slow season. The drive to the resort is an hour and 20 minutes but it's not so bad as you get to see the towns along the way. They will tell you that it is safe to go in to the town of Las Galeras and it is but it is a very uncomfortable walk up the beach and a fellow traveler said he was pick pocketed. There is a store right at the resort that offers everything you could have wanted at the town anyways. The horses running up the resort was absolutely unacceptable as we were traveling with a child. The grounds are absolutely beautiful, mature palms provide lots of shade! We had a nice time just wanted to write this as a heads up about a few issues to future guests of the hotel!

The maid did an excellent job cleaning the room. We had an excellent time. The red wine was the best we had, since travelling and we love the barbicue chicken.

This is 3 stars hotel, not 4 stars. We stayed for 2 weeks, during low season, the hotel was nearly empty-that was nice. Rooms were spacious and clean, although a little old fashioned. Dominican gastronomy is nothing special in general, so dont expect some amazing gastronomical experience - they are trying to change the styles of the dinner every day and sometimes they serve ala carte dinners (american buffet, international buffet, dominican or italian buffet, barbeque...) But their food is really quite boring..I missed a lot yogurts and some good quality musli for breakfast! Exotic Fruits and fish was poor quality. But anyway, I did not expect from the cheap all inclusive resort nothing else. Hotel staff (especially waiters) does not speak english, fortunately I speak spanish, but I have no idea how the other clients can comunicate with them...
Beach is ok but we but there are much nicer - especially La playa Rincon and La playa Fronton and Madama! Small village Las Galeras is just 10 min. walking from the resort, we went there nearly every night - for a pina colada or to the dace club to dance some merenque and bachata.
So in summary, what is my overall impression? If you are looking for fancy hotel and great gastronomy, this is not place for you. But the nature and beaches are really beautiful and absolutely empty - dont miss playa Rincon-i felt there like in paradise!

Room Tip: rooms near the reception are new
