a romantic b&b that is more like visiting your favorite aunt. their knowledge of the local "way" and getting great value for your excursion/experience is impressive. the only problem is that the views and ambiance are so good at la loma cita that you don't want to leave!

If you do not enjoy the crowded resort type of vacation, here is the place for you.
I first heard about the La Loma-Cita from a co-worker who had recently stayed at this place. He couldn't stop telling us about how much he enjoyed his stay that we (my wife and I) decided that we had to see it for ourselves.

Armelle replied to my emails promptly and was very helpful with lining us up with transportation from the Santo Domingo airport (SDQ) and a quick visit of the capital before the drive up to the Samana peninsula (about a 2 hours ride in a modern air conditioned bus) across the island. Once we arrived in the town of Samana, Armelle and Christian were there to pick us up with their 4X4 and give us a ride to their place in Las Galeras. When we arrived at La Loma-Cita they took us to our villa which was located in a beautiful tropical garden on the edge of the forest (very quite at night). Once we freshened up we walked down to the main house for drinks and dinner... and wow, what a setting! The living room / dining room / deck which is covered by a large palm type yawning offers a great view over the trees all the way out to the ocean and the sunsets provide the prefect tone for Armelle's cocktails made with local fresh fruits. Our hosts are also wonderful cooks. We had the possibility of cooking for ourselves in our villa but our hosts' table and their wonderful fusion (French/Dominican) cooking using local products (including seafood fresh out of the ocean) was impossible to pass on. Christian bakes fresh French bread every morning and will make you the best crepes (using his family's recipe) upon request and they go very well with Armelle's jams & jellies that she makes from local fruits she harvests herself locally. Those breakfasts enjoyed while taking in the view are impossible to beat!

There are many things to do to fill your days with adventures or just relax on a beach. Our favorite thing to do was to walk to Playa Madama, a 15 minutes walks down a path through the forest to a small secluded beach lined with coconut trees where we only once saw other beachgoers. There are many excursions available through the village of Las Galeras (a 15 minutes walk also): whale watching boat rides, scuba diving, four wheeler guided tours. The village also has several good restaurants.
The truth is that we rarely found a reason to leave La Loma-Cita during our week long stay. The swimming pool by the banana trees and naps or massage by a local masseuse under the ranchetta (open air suspended bed under a palm roof) was mainly what I wanted!
There are also three horses on the property and Armelle guided us on a wonderful horse back ride through the campo while pointing out the local vegetation and fruit trees. The two dogs Pasta and Ganja were more than eager to open the trail for us!

We found that a one week long stay at La Loma-Cita is a bit short considering all the options available.
We do love to travel to new places a lot but finding another destination to top this one will not be easy... especially since the hosts are so helpful and easy-going (... and good cook!). In all reality, we cannot wait to come back and see our friends again.

They do have a lot of good pictures on their facebook page:

Did I mention that Christian makes excellent crepes? (!)

I live in la Romana and my girlfriend chose this place to spend our week of vacation in the country. We are both French.
The place is far from any kind of pollution you can find in the cities here. We were in one of the villas and it was so quiet, and the sky at night is so clear you can see the milky way and any possible constellation.

You can have your diners and breakfasts with the hosts, Armelle and Christian. They are wonderful cooks and will make you discover the vegetables and fruits of the peninsula : Almost everything come from the garden.
These intimate meals could be the occasion to meet the other guests, that seem to come from every part of the world (Canadian, American, Japan, Australia, Norway etc.) just as we did.

There are many thing to do : beaches to see, hikes, cascada del Limon, Boca del Diablo... And Armelle and Christian have always advices about what to do, where to eat in local's places, and how to get there. Themselves organize some excursions to Samana or remote cliffs for example.

There are so many things to say. Do not hesitate to get in touch with them via the website. It cannot be a wrong choice.

Room Tip: This is not a resort, there are 3 villas and two rooms. Just ask to know.

We had a great time visiting La Loma Cita!

Armelle and Christian are wonderful hosts, makes you feel comfortable, always have great advices and they are also wonderful cooks! We highly recommend the passion fruit/rhum home made drink and their menu was delicious - Everything fresh and local - home made yogurts, bread and jam - eggs from the henhouse.

The rooms and the entire amenities are open on the beautiful yard - the outside bed is a must for a nap, then head to the outside shower hidden in the passion fruit leaves, or have a drink in the natural swimming pool.
All of this with a beautiful view on the bay of Las Galeras.

It is a quiet, secluded piece of paradise, really close to the beach and not far from the downtown area. Also a great spot to follow Armelle and Christian in one of the guided hike to the pristine beaches.
