“Good service, nice location”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 31, 2012

The rooms are big (we stayed in Suite No 1) but the building is a bit old although whitout lacking the mountainous Greek character and well cared for. The staff is very attentive and kind. Theit lounge is beautiful and inviting and they even have a smoking lounge with beautiful, really comfortable chesterfield sofas. Their restaurant is quite good, with an excellent selection of Greek wines. All in all it was a very relaxing experience, but I'd try something else if there again, just for the sake of variety...

Room Tip: Opt for a room that's not close to the stairs and with a balcony that overlooks the mountain'...

Hotel is located in a beautiful village on a slope surrounded by trees.
We booked a triple room during Christmas Holidays as double rooms are not so large for a young couple with a small child.
Room has rather an old-fashioned decoration and cannot be characterized as luxury. I am sure that 10 year ago the room would have been exactly the same. Heating equipment definitely needs renovation as both heating bodies had a leak! The result of this was the carpet to get wet in almost a quarter of the room while in the bath the situation was more controllable as the water could go down the pipe. Bathroom was renovated and generally Ok.
The strongest part of the hotel was the lobby. Fireplace in the middle surrounded by many couches in a spacious hall with good service from the restaurant-bar and a nice view outside from the large windows.
Overall for 230 euros/night (Christmas rate) I would expect much more...

I tried to booka double room for 3 days in this hotel at the end of December. I contacted the property directly and was given a price of 230€ per night. I had a look in the internet and I found the same room for 170€ per night at the "reservationeurope.com". The only problem is that they only had availability for two out of the three days. So I booked and paid for the two days and received a confirmation e-mail by the site. I then contacted the property again asking if I could book the third day. They had availability, so I asked if they could give me a better price since I had already found it much cheaper in the internet. They said they couldn't and that the price I mentioned was wrong. I gave them all the relevant details for them to check. The result is that after they had checked, they refused to give me any discount and when I asked to book the room for their price (230€) they still refused with the excuse that they do not take one day bookings - even though I would stay another two days in their hotel- and despite the fact this was not mentioned in the official site of the hotel. The day after I received an e-mail from "reservationseurope.com" cancelling my booking all together...this was the punishment for "daring" to find a better price in the internet. I find the attitude and behaviour of both the staff of the hotel and the "reservationseurope.com" very unprofessional...it reminded me more of that related to "rooms to let in Faliraki"! No surprise tourism business is suffering in Greece nowdays!

Neo Mikro Horio is a small village located in the Karpenisiotis river valley, high up in the Pindos mountains of central Greece. The wider area is often called "The Switzerland of Greece" and not without reason. In these Alpine surroundings, Country Club Hellas is by far the best choice for your stay. In fact, it is one of the best winter hotels in Greece.

Although the building itself is less than charming from the outside, the interiors are trully wonderful. We arrived at night and the first thing we noticed was the lobby full of soft sofas, thick pillows, dimmed lights, burning logs at the open-all-around central fireplace, candles everywhere and the bar serving hot cocoa or varieties of local teas. The room - one of their five junior suites - was also impressive. Very large (at least for Greek winter resort standards), it boasted a HUGE bed - is there such a thing as a double king?! - together with a seperate sitting room, again with soft sofas and pillows overlooking a well-stacked fireplace. The bathroom, although in a slightly different direction design-wise (more rustic than easygoing luxury), was sparkling clean. Finally, the service was as friendly as one would wish but also very professional, something rare in the Greek countryside.

What could be better? For one thing, a hotel of this class should have a restaurant! Besides some very basic room-service dishes (a salad, a club sandwich, a cheese platter, perhaps a local pie or soup every now and then), Country Club Hellas has no restaurant. Which is a shame, as while the property beckons guests to stay in, at the same time it forces them to leave in order to find somewhere else to eat! Also, we found the 25W bulbs in ALL the room reading lamps (bed & sitting room) very annoying. OK, I understand low-light ambience, still some people wish to read in their rooms and it was impossible in ours after dark. Finally, I was surprised with the location of the suites. Although all rooms have views to the mountains, some very few have the street running right in front of them. And that is exactly where they've put their suites! The noise was not an issue, as this was a small village street with no significant traffic, however why they chose the worst spot to put their 350-euro-a-night suites remains a mystery!

Overall, the Country Club Hellas is a destination on its own, offering numerous reasons for its guests to skip the daily skiing or sightseeing excursions and simply indulge to its many charms. The area is gorgeous, with many lovely little villages and numerous mountain roads leading to pristine woodland to explore. Avoid Karpenisi, the only big city of the area (15 min. from the hotel), despite its efforts to re-brand itself into an Alpine resort it remains an uninviting place.

  • Liked — ambience, size of room, professional service
  • Disliked — no restaurant, suites located at hotel's worst section with views to the street
