“Spectacular Vacation”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 8, 2013

I am a trip advisor addict before every trip my husband and I have taken. I have found myself laughing hysterically with comments such as ,"it was too hot!" You are in the tropics! We are returning from The Lady Hamilton Grand Palladium and were impressed from the timely check-in to the shuttle as we sadly left! Emerse yourself in the Jamaican culture and hospitality! Always smiling and making sure "every little thing gonna be alright"! We will definately be returning!

Room Tip: Choose the honeymoon suites, you won't be disappointed :)

My husband and I picked this resort to experience our first vacation in Jamaica, and we weren't disappointed. The activities around the pool were top-notch, and the beach and pool areas were amazing. The people were incredible and the food was delicious. We weren't hassled by persons on the beach or anything. We will definitely return to this hotel ... no complaints.

Room Tip: If you are looking for something quiet, ask for a building by the quiet pool.

We stayed here in October 2013 to celebrate our 30th Anniversary after having an amazing holiday at the Grand Palladium in Mexico-Cancun the year before. Check in was done by just one person so took a while. No bar at Reception to get a drink after a long journey. The staff at the bars would serve you as long as you waved a tip at them, if not you were invisible. The location was in the middle of nowhere so you had to use the hotel shops. The excursions were brilliant
The shop marked up prices in a ridiculous way, charged double for stamps and other things. I went to Reception to change up some US dollar Travellers Cheques and was told to write the hotels name on them which I did. I was then told that I had to have Jamaican dollars, even though they had US dollars in the till and the TC's were for US dollars. They then told me that I would only get 85 Jamaican dollars to 1 US dollar even though everywhere we went on excursions took like for like. Then the worst part was the tree frogs and crickets which made an incredible loud noise all night every night so much that I had to wear ear plugs. Had I known this I would not have booked to go there. The animation team did a great job but it became a bit repetitive as no outside acts came in for the main evening entertainment. The cleaners, gardeners and all the staff that did not get tips were lovely and really friendly as were the drivers and guides on the excursions. Jamaica is a beautiful island and the people on the whole were very friendly.

We stayed at the Lady Hamilton side of the resort from October 23-30 in villa #38 This is a beautiful resort but also very large, I would not advise anyone who has difficulty walking or is elderly to stay here. They do have golf carts for transportation but you may have to wait to get one and there are stairs to get to cove beach which is the most beautiful beach on the property and it would be a shame to miss it. The food was excellent and the service was great, the pools are beautiful and to my surprise the shopping on the property was cheaper then on the hipstrip. The only complaints I have is that the showers leak leaving the bathroom floors slippery, the pillows are hard and the maids need to learn to leave washcloths and a couple of extra towels to soak up the water from the shower. Bath matts may also be appropriate. During a rain storm the first floor rooms in building #37 flooded and the response from management was non-existent. All in all we had a wonderful week and I can't say enough about the staff but the resort being only 5 years old needs some major repairs already as there were missing tiles in the pool, the walkway bricks were loose and please maybe upgrade your bathroom fixtures the metal flapper over the toilet paper could go away... but thanks for a beautiful week.

Room Tip: Villa #38 is quiet and located close to the spa pool and not too far from Cove Beach but it is quite...

Thank you very much for your honest review about your experience at our resort. First of all, I want to extend our sincere apology regarding the facts you have outlined. As you mentioned, there are little things that can be addressed. I dont want to give you the impression of management is not taking care of guest issues. We appreciate your positive comments about the accommodations, the meals served at the a la carte restaurants and buffets, the pools, the service. We are glad to know have enjoyed it all!

We were here from October 15 to 25th, 2013. We will list the "bad" and negative experiences first and the positive ones last. This so you aren't left with a totally negative impression about this resort. Our first impression was very good being greeted from the airport shuttle, with tropical drinks and friendly smiles from the bell desk. Especially Henroy, who immediately made us feel happy and welcome and that we had made the right resort choice. The lobby is open air and our first negative experience was with people being permitted to smoke everywhere! We had called prior to arriving to ask that we be assigned a non smoking room. At which point we were informed by the "reception desk" that the entire resort was non-smoking. Since I have heart issues and am allergic to smoke, this delighted me. However that is definitely not the case. They allow smoking EVERYWHERE except the rooms! So we walked into smokers and were exposed to mouthfuls of smoke everyday at every turn. Very disappointing and disgusting. The front desk staff didn't care. Not about the smoke and not about anything. Those girls need to be re-trained. Being former hotel owners and managers for many years, we were appalled at the treatment everyone was given from the front desk staff. So don't expect any responses if you have any complaints. Even after 4 days of asking for a box of tissues we had to ask for the hotel manager to get any kind of response. Apparently they don't allow the housekeeping staff to have access to supplies for the rooms! Not sure if this is a trust issue due to past problems but it is nonsense. Tissues? What if it had been toilet paper that we were out of? It took FOUR days and talking to TWO different "on duty" managers to finally get a box delivered to our suite. The front desk "supervisor", Savannah was totally useless and ignorant. Not a smile and very curt. Terrible attitude. The only other staff we found to be rude and discriminatory were KEISHA D., a waitress at the Blue Lagoon breakfast buffet and JOHN, a bartender in the Sports Bar. KESHA D just ignored us after my sister asked for a cup of tea. We asked her 3 times and we are still waiting! (we have been home for a week now). She went on to serve all the Jamaicans and African Americans but totally ignored us. So if your are Caucasian you will wait for service from her. JOHN was very nice to us the first night we went to the sports bar. He joked around about being out of bananas for a dirty banana - the Jamaican drink of choice - and even made us a specialty drink in its place. The second time we went to that bar after being on an excursion to Negril and purchasing bananas, we joked with him about bringing our own bananas so we could taste the dirty banana finally. He was downright rude and ignorant. We asked if he was having a bad night to which he responded yes! And we jut said that's ok, everyone has a right to have a bad day. He ignored us totally and wouldn't even serve us! We suggest if you encounter him to keep a wide berth. The next negative experience was with our taxi driver, Gary. My sister had read some positive feedback about him on some of the travel sites. But they were all from very young travelers. 18 - 25. We think he was involved with ganja business since both times we rented his (absolutely filthy dirty) cab/van, he had to make several stops to "pick up" something and "Drop off" something. All on our dime so to speak. He was also very nice and informative at first, but that changed and he left us with our bags and purses etc, on the seven mile beach in Negril, and left to "take care of business". This meant we couldn't go anywhere together as couples. Someone had to stay with our belongings. So we couldn't go jet skiing like we wanted to or anything else together as couples. That is the reason we got a taxi and not a tour bus. So we could do things on our time and be able to feel comfortable leaving our things in the taxi. Didn't happen on either excursion. And on the second one with him to YS Falls, Black River and th4 Appleton rum factory, we didn't even have4 enough time to go to the rum factory. My sister wanted to go zip lining at the falls but Gary told her it took 40 mins but we had to meet him in 30 mins! . So unless you are young people who want to smoke pot don't choose this taxi driver. Choose either Kevin or "Sammy" (Daniel Samuelson) if you want a good experience on tours in a CLEAN taxi. Otherwise just go with the tour buses. We had Sammy take us to the airport for our departure flight and wish we had rented his taxi for our excursions!Ok that all said, we did have some good experiences and met some really great people! Our maid was MAXINE and we can't say enough good things about her. She was always friendly and smiling and happy. She was very trustworthy - and believe me we don't ever leave cash or jewelry or anything valuable in our hotel rooms not even in the US or Canada. There was a room safe and although we had heard horror stories about these not being good, we had no issues with ours. We locked our passports and all valuables in the safe. The front desk staff could learn a lot from Maxine about customer service and attitude. After all, a smile costs nothing. On our first trip to the MoBay Buffet we met Jason Jones, our waiter. He was wonderful! His customer service skills are far superior to anyone else at the Lady Hamilton. First impressions are the most important he told us, and he certainly made great one on us. We felt comfortable and welcomed and like we were the only people at the buffet. His managers need to promote him for sure. Another great waitress was Janice, at the Negril buffet. And on our last day we met Nicolette another waitress who was so personable and a happy person, but also very professional without being "stuffy". Made our last experience at the resort a positive one. We must state here that all of the food was very good. We didn't have one bad meal. The best food is in the Italian restaurant. The worst was in the "steak" or barbecue restaurant. It was actually closed but they had it at the Mexican restaurant every other night. All of the buffets were terrific. The last experience we want to comment on was our snorkeling trip on the catamaran from Tiami Cruises and an individual catamaran lesson from Jesse James at Total Watersports, Sunset Cove Beach. This was the most fun we had during our 10 days at this resort. Jesses was sweet and laid back and such a great guide on our catamaran lesson. The three guides on the large catamaran and snorkeling excursion were Orion, Vancaoet (spelling?) and Michael. They were happy and fun and informative and very patient with the first-time, "slow" snorkelers. Michael was the best! He never left the groups side during the snorkeling often going back to check on the stragglers to ensure their safety. He made sure the entire group stopped and were able to see everything he pointed out along the reef. Back on the catamaran they were all dancing and singing and having a total blast! It was the best experience for us in Jamaica by far. If you have the chance, DO it!

We had a great time in Jamaica overall. This resort is average at best. But most of the people were fantastic! The few bad apples were so bad that they did leave a bad taste in our mouths for this resort however, and we probably won’t go back there. Also a little tidbit about the Grand Palladium versus the Lady Hamilton. They are one and the same resort! We paid more for our suite because it was at the Lady Hamilton (newer) section. BUT even though we didn't see the rooms at the Grand Palladium side, we dont think the difference in price is worth it. You will still get the same bad treatment from the Front Desk staff. And the rooms are probably on par. So if you are on a budget or just don't want to spend extra money for your room, just book at the Grand Palladium for less.

Have a great vacation in Jamaica - ya mon!

Dear shelby0321,

Thank you for taking the time to share your comments based on your recent vacation spent at our Resort. Regarding the smoking rules at the hotel, I want to clarify that smoking is only allowed in open air locations, definetly prohibited in closed areas.

Sometimes you find people that can ruin the hard work of other staff members, who make a big effort to satisfy guest needs. We work toughly through training and briefings to give our staff the necessary tools to provide the best service. We will take the necessary measures to correct the issues that you have outlined.

We would like to express you how sorry we are to hear that we could not fulfill all your expectations regarding our hotel facilities and services

It was our pleasure to have hosted you

Overall, our experience was great! The food was spectacular. From Breakfast to Dinner, I could not find a thing I did not like. Here’s a tip: mosey on down to the Sunset Cove Beach during the daytime, and hit up the Jerk Chicken Hut (You’re Welcome ☺). The bartenders and wait staff we ok…like any “All-Inclusive” you will pick your favorites. The POP show at 9:30 every night was a good time.
There were two things in particular I wasn’t very pleased with: 1) Housekeeping was not quite up to par. One day we had to call at 6:30 p.m. to have the room cleaned; and 2) One of the days, the room was cleaned but we were not given fresh towels. I can’t actually call these two incidents “Complaints”, because they were immediately rectified. Also, I wasn’t crazy about the man made beaches on the resort, but the Infinity Pool was sweet. We spent most of our time on the Sunset Cove Beach and would end up In the pool before closing. Also, read further on arranging a day trip to Negril. The 7 Mile beach is majestic.
Tips/Suggestions: 1) Try to get a room with a view (building 26). The front desk will help you anyway they can to put you in the room you want. 2) as far as tipping the staff goes, TIP THEM…its how they survive. They are extremely greatful. What I did was, I went to my bank before the trip and withdrew $100 in one dollar bills. 3) If you’re looking to leave the resort, don’t do the group shuttles. Go with the private car service located on the upper level of the lobby. The driver is at your demand, will be with you at all stops, and acts as a first class tour guide. We went with “Dale”. He took us to Margaretville, in Negril, which was AWESOME! He took us to a local spot to get grilled Lobster fresh out of the water. He took us to Rick’s Café at the end of our day. He was with us every step, and made us feel safe and comfortable; and 4) Learn to say “no” Locals will approach you often, and make you feel uncomfortable and pressured to give them money for this and that. Just say no and move along.
All-in-all, I would recommend this place to friends, and would definitely choose Lady Hamilton again. I hope you find this review helpful. If you want any further info, PM me.
Good Luck!

Stayed here from 12-26 Oct 13 which incorporated our 30th wedding anniversary. First impressions were good although even though we had booked 14 months before going, the top floor double bed room we requested was not available! Settled for 1st floor double which was probably better than top floor especially when coming back from the bar at midnight! Other than that check in was quick and we were soon in the room which was huge. Massive bathroom with Jacuzzi, huge super king bed, sitting area and balcony. Air-con ran all the time if we wanted as did the mini bar which is restocked daily and is included. Free room safe in the wardrobe. Room was clean and cool.
Only went to one a la carte which was the steakhouse, special mention to ELMO for his excellent service and constant supply of rum and cokes. The main buffet restaurant had lots of variety for every meal but I must say the food could have been a bit hotter although I suppose this is part of the problem with hotplate buffets in an air conditioned room. My only complaint is that your tea/coffee at breakfast came after you had finished eating. If this is not how you like it then go to the Blue Lagoon for breakfast. Went on various trips out as there's not much to do outside the hotel. DO NOT expect the roads/driving to be the same as in the UK or USA, but DO make the effort to see more than the hotel, and if you have a nagging back pain you wont have by the time you get back to the hotel, believe me. With the help from HYACINTH, our holiday rep we went to Rockland's Bird Sanctuary (there isn't an organised trip so have to arrange it yourself) Stunning feeding hummingbirds and worth the effort but be warned, wear long trousers, socks and shoes or your ankles will get bitten alive!. Also went on a trip to the Black River/YS Falls/Appleton Rum factory. Long day but informative and your rewarded at the rum factory if you get my meaning. Also went to Bob Marley's house/Dunns river falls. Wow what a day out. Bob's a favourite with us and it was a bit emotional at his tomb. Had a rasta shot there, worth the $10 so give it a go. Didn't try the ganga though, yes it is for sale. Dunns river was brilliant. If you don't do anything else in Jamaica you HAVE to do this. Also went to the Croydon in the Mountains plantation. Very informative and a good lunch. Spent the rest of the time in the hotel at the pool or on the beach or in the cool of the room. Adult pool needs more variety of music but that's why we take our ipods. Loads of sunbeds at the main pool in shade or sun. No crowding. Entertainment is there during the day if you want it. Loads of bars in this hotel but our favourite was the Infinity bar. JEAN was a star and the bar staff are entertaining when the live music starts. Thanks to Jean, we never left sober!!!
Also go to Miss Lou's bar for afternoon tea/coffee/cakes etc. STREETE made excellent drinks.
This is a long flight from the UK but worth the effort. Overall the hotel and the trips we took were brilliant and we had a fantastic time.

Room Tip: We were in Villa 38 room 3814. Its probably the quietist as it the furthest away from the evening en...
