My wife & I stayed at GPLH from Jan 19 - 26 2012. The entire resort was very nice. There are three smaller beaches so you options each day to enjoy the sea. The food was great and went to 4 a la cartes. Tons of choices at the buffets as well
This was our first trip to Jamaica, but have travelled to Mexico, Dominican & Cuba. The GPLH is clearly a 41/2 star resort.

Room Tip: Choose apt #33. THE THIRD floor gives an excellent view of the sea facing Lucea. Most rooms will req...

We spent 2 weeks (Jan 9 - 23) as a group of 11 people. This was the 2nd visit for some of us, and we all found it as welcoming as we did last year. It's a fantastic hotel, and we'll be going back again next year.

The only points that we would like the hotel manager Dimitrius to consider are 1) For a 5 star hotel, I would expect some spirits in the bedroom bar - at least some Appleton. We noticed that it was being taken to some rooms (presumably more expensive rooms), and when we asked, were told that we would have to pay for it! Considering it is available freely at the bars and is locally produced costing approx £2.50 for a small flask at a local supermarket - it seems a small price for the hotel to provide to give guests that real feeling of 5 star luxury. 2) There is a distinct lack of reggae music playing around the hotel. Hearing reggae playing around the pool area and on the beach, would certainly have livened things up for us! We are in Jamaica and expect to hear reggae!

Room Tip: We have stayed on both the Jamaica and Lady Hamilton side of the hotel. Lady Hamilton side is closer...

Both my wife and I where a little worried after reading some of the negative reviews about GPLH before setting off on our holiday, so much so that I emailed the general manager (Dimitris) before we set off and he took the time and trouble to respond in a postive manner, which put our minds at rest but not 100%. Upon our arrival all of the negative reviews where blown out of the water!!!!!

Check in was swift and pleasant and the staff on the desk are excellent. If you look to the right of the check in desk there is a notice board with the weeks weather report and a list of which and when each a la carte restaurant is open(so "stop moaning" everyone who says they couldn't find out which was open on which day). We where taken to our villa by a little cart so did not have to walk with our heavy cases.
We had also emailed ahead to ask for a room as far away from the main hotel as possible as both my wife and I like walking and peace and quiet and we could not have been more happy! We had villa 39 room 18 and it was amazing, large lounge with flat screen TV, Sofa bed and a balcony with sea view, a large bathroom with large shower, massive whirlpool bath and a sea view window and a large bedroom with flat screen TV, king size bed and a balcony with sea view. We timed the walk from the main "Infinity Bar" to our room walking at normal "Jamaican pace" and it took us 5 mins. (so "stop moaning" the people who say everything is too far away).
Both of us like our food(we put on more than 1/2 stone each) and the food is amazing, we went to 2 of the a la carte's but found the buffet better so ended up there on all other nights, they do change the buffet theme each night so you wont get bored. We did keep trying to get into the steak house but it was always too over booked.
The main pool is enormous and there are always plenty of beds to go around, although all of the bar seats around the pool bar are always taken up by loud people from that country just off the coast of Cuba.
The grounds are kept immaculately by what seemed hundreds of staff who always said hello and where polite. We heard of nothing going missing like some of the recent reports and we even left small amounts of cash lying around in our room and it was still there upon our return, Maxine the cleaner is the "best".
There where a few things which did not perform up to standards that some people may be used to, both the air con and the mini fridge are not the best performers but as I understand it Fiesta Hotel Group who own GPLH our looking after the environment and are trying to keep there carbon footprint to a minimum so this is no bad thing. The bedding did feel a little damp sometimes but I think it is the material rather than actually being damp.
All in all we had a great holiday and would certainly go back apart from the biggest major downfall and it is something totally out of the hotels hands, there where a lot of VERY LOUD people who come from a country not too far away from Jamaica who where so rude, ignorant and impolite that we even had to move on the beach one day, they do not know how to speak to the person next to them, they have to shout so that the person at the other end of the beach knows there business. they do not know how to say please and thank you and think that they are the only people on the planet. We take our hat off to all of the staff at GPLH, we dont know how you stay so cool!! You do not have to tip the staff and we did not feel once that we should even if I didn't have any change on me but we always did try to tip them as they do a great job for very little money. Thanks for a great holiday..

Room Tip: Take a picture of the restaurant times and dates with your phone and ask for room 3918 it was amazin...

My husband and I, along with friends of ours, spent last week at this resort(Jan 23 - 30) and what a week it was. We arrived just before noon, got checked in quickly and although our rooms weren't ready, which is to be expected like in all hotels, we were shown a room to change into our swimsuits and shorts and went for lunch and a swim. Our rooms were ready for us by 3:30pm and they were better than before. We were in the bungalow section which is by the adult only pool, as we requested. We had private outdoor showers, two person spa tubs, king beds and a brilliant view of the ocean. Plates of fresh fruit were delivered to our rooms as we were settling in. This was the third trip for my husband and myself and the first time our friend joined us here. They were very impressed.
The food in the buffet restaurant is wonderful. If you leave there hungry, you are WAY too picky. This is coming from a very finicky eater. My husband loves soup and was impressed by the variety served every day (expecially the fish/seafood soups) We ate at the Asian, Seafood and Mexican a la carte restaurants as well and the food was fabulous. So was the service in these restaurant. In the evenings we went to the Infinity Bar. Just remember that you are in Jamaica, you are not the only people there and relax. Service here can be a little slow but don't blame the waitresses as they can only move as fast as the drinks are being poured and there are many being poured.
We spent most of our days at the adult only pool and beach, swimming, snorkeling and reading. There is a bar here as well which at times got busy, but not too bad. They ran out of bananas a couple of days so my friend and I remembered to bring a some from breakfast as we developed a taste for Banana Coladas. Irie!
The weather was amazingly beautiful and hot. Sunshine every day except for one hour of rain one afternoon. We just huddled under a little covered hut by the pool and talked until it was over.
The resort is very large so if you have problems with mobility, or you just get tired, there are carts to drive you around. This comes in handy after a full day of sun and fun and then an evening in shoes(girls you know what I mean) Just walk to the front lobby and they will take you back to your room.
Check-out was a breeze. We asked for a wake-up call and we got it. The valet came to pick us up with our bags, brought us to the lobby where we left the luggage with them while we went for breakfast...yes, they gave us time to eat before heading to the airport - they didn't rush us out hungry.
The staff at this resort is the friendliest we have ever been to and we have traveled a lot. The resort is spotlessly clean, as are the rooms, and they are continuely doing maintenance.
WE CAN'T WAIT TO GO BACK AGAIN NEXT YEAR!

Room Tip: If you are wanting a quieter vacation, ask for a room by the adult only pool. It is away from the st...

We Have just returned to the UK after spending two weeks at the resort. (17th Jan to 31st Jan 2012) tis was our second visit to Jamaica and although we had a great time, there are a few things to be aware of:
1. There are a number of staff who are taking advantagevof guests who use mobile telephones and cameras in the resort. By this I mean, they are stealing these items at every opportunity.
We had a camera stolen on Sunset beach on the second day andvan iPhone on the third day at the same beach.
To top it off, on our final day whilst we were moving our bags from the first floor to the ground floor of our Villa, we caught the guy topping up the mini bar stealing our nephews blackberry!
We had left the room for literally 2 minutes to move the bags and closed the door behind us. Unfortunately there are numerous staff who can access the rooms. Please be careful!
2. We were a group of ten and as previous reviews have mentioned, be prepared to wait for a table.
3. Why are the are the A la carte restaurants closed on various nights?
4. Avoid the Mexican restaurant, rubbish food that is a poor excuse for Mexican food.
5. When branded spirits run out at the bar, there's no replacements available! This is supposed to be 'all inclusive'!
Otherwisevthe resort is very clean and the buffet is great

I'm a bit late in writing this review however it better late than never. Stayed at the Lady Hamilton in October, the rooms were nice, property was beautiful and the wait staff excellent. Food at the A la carte restaurants was great just don't be a party in a large group (over ten), the hostess or supervisors has no idea how to deal with it. We waited for over 2 hours one night, another night the restaurant was empty however neither the hostess, supervisor or manager would accommodate us. You would think the third time would be a charm, we were told they would be able to accommodate us and again they failed. This experience with the restaurants however did not overshadow the wonderful time we had overall. The staff at the seafood restaurant close to the beach were very friendly and courteous, the fried fish was the "bomb". Overall we had a great stay and I would strongly recommend this hotel...
