Even in the midst of hurricane prep, palapa Joel's pumped out good quality food! We have been here several times and have always had good food. Try the crunchy tacos, nachos, pizzas and anything on special. Chill atmosphere, clean, good!

This is a gringo owned bar and cafe. That said it is really a great super casual spot to relax and get a good meal, meet great people or watch TV on one of the two big screens. The owner Willy does a great job with filling the place with local gringo talent at night. The scene is fun and genuine expat good times. My strong recommendation for food is their Sopa Azteca, a homemade tortilla soup with hunks of avocado, chicken and cheese. Yum! The owner Willy is a long haired gringo who plays a mean guitar. He hosts special events like a real American Thanksgiving, the Superbowl and even the inauguration ceremony of the US president at his place. He has even has hosted Guy Fierri as a special chef a while back. You will find Mexicans, Canadians and Americans all enjoying Palapa Joes. . Don't expect gourmet however. Do expect to feel welcome and well fed.

Great crispy chicken tacos, hamburgers, best ever onion rings, and much more including pizza. Weekly specials are always good. The place to watch your favorite sport on tv, monthly Open Mike night, pleasant atmosphere

After reading all of the glowing reviews posted here, we felt obligated to give Palapa Joe's a try. It is a massive building across the main beach street from the beach. It appears to be a restaurant solely for gringos. The specials outside are written in English, the cliental are exclusively white tourists. The menu is extensive, but the place is so dark its hard to read. The food was ok, not bad, not memorable. The service was fair though we had to ask for silverware and napkins. Halfway though dinner a couple of graying gringos played a pretty horrible blues set on bongos and electric guitar. The one good point is that the drinks are very strong. The bad point for me is that I walk past it every night (I've been here 2 weeks) and I have yet to see any mexicans in the place, yet it always seems to be overflowing with drunk old gringos... I guess its not really my scene.
