Very nice hotel in a small quiet town. The room was newly refurbished in with a warm feeling. A ampel terrace facing Kootenay & a beautiful mountains.
The restaurant didn´t serve breakfast. Treehouse (other side of the street) was the alternative, a excellent choice with a local, original touch.

Room Tip: Try to get a room with lake/mountain wiev.

We drove to Kaslo to check it out the weekend before the May long weekend (when it gets very busy there i hear). We got a room special which included a bottle of wine at the restaurant, so the price was quite good for the 2 nights. We were pleasantly surprised at the quality of the room on the second floor. It was very large with 2 comfie queen beds and a beautiful bathroom with large soaking tub, shower and toiletries in dispensers in 3 locations! They are made by a local company. Granite countertops in the bathroom, plus on the extra sink area outside the bathroom. The room has an interesting and comfortable tooled leather rocking chair. There is a large deck area outside the room and a beautiful view of the lake and mountains. The only downside were the strings of wires running across the lovely view and it would be nice if they could put them underground here. One advantage of our room location was that it was above the restaurant which closes about 9 pm so its not noisy below. I wouldn't want to be above the pub on the other end!

The restaurant itself was not great in terms of food offerings or quality, but the ambience was pleasant with the lake view. My steak was tough, the veggies uninspired and so on. They do have a nice selection of craft beers however. There are other restaurants within a very short walking distance to choose from. The staff and the townsfolk in general were very friendly. All in all a very peaceful, relaxing and pleasant stay at a little gem of a hotel.

Stayed overnight on our way into a Back country lodge.
This is not some dumpy old hotel!
Queen, front street room was large, clean, bed was comfortable.
Free wifi advertised in lobby and bar but we had it in our room as well. Pass key access for the rooms was simple to use. We ate in the bar. ( same menu as dining room) Our server was very pleasant and helpfull. Front office is open 8-5 go to bar to checkin after 5. We checked out prior to 8 am and had an email receipt by 9:30. We would stay here again for sure!

Although I did not stay at the hotel, I did visit the pub several times. One of the few pubs I have found in North America that has a wood burning fire place. It's awesome to come in to when you come out of the cold. That smell of wood burning is inspiring.

They've got a great selection of local brew on tap too!
Thanks!

We, too stayed here as part of the Grizzly Bear Ranch deal. I was very pleasantly surprised by the room. It was very nice with a wonderful lake view. Also very quiet. We hope to go back next year and we would stay for more than one night here.

Room Tip: Lake view for sure

We stayed here as part of the package with Grizzly Bear Ranch. The staff were polite and helpful throughout our stay and provision can be made to store luggage if, like us, you are off adventuring for a few days. Kaslo is a wonderful small town in the middle of some of the best scenery in eastern BC, but is little known to the international tourist as it is ‘off the beaten track’ – this should not put people off as access is very easy.

The room came as a real surprise, second floor lake view (rear of hotel) – that is an understatement of reality, the rooms are cleaner, larger and better equipped than many mid to high range hotel chains offer with very comfortable beds guaranteeing a good nights sleep. If the almost picture window isn’t enough for you to while away time looking at the lake and mountains the room also has a balcony and furniture to sit out and dream! If you have to keep in touch with the outside world the hotel complimentary wireless worked faultlessly and if you don’t have your own ‘wireless device’ there is a guest use computer near the elevator.

We ate in the restaurant and the food was good and well presented, although the best desserts can run out on the night very quickly! It is a pity however that as the hotel is so close to the best kept wine secret (BC wines are extremely good) the wine list consisted of the usual international offerings rather than local products – this was made up for to a degree by some very nice local beers. It is a pity that breakfast isn’t available at the hotel (this would add value) but there are good cafes within a very short distance that provide this service.

As we didn’t pay directly it is hard to say much about value for money (we do not know the price for the room we had), it does seem to be priced quite high, but the rooms (of which there are very few for a building of this size), service and location do work in its favour. We would certainly choose to stay here again.

Room Tip: Rooms at the rear of the hotel offer spectacular views, but if you are constrained by budget all roo...

Stayed in the hotel prior to visiting the Grizzly bear ranch as part of the deal. The room was spacious and clean with a great view over Kootenay Lake. Ate in the restaurant and enjoyed a perfectly cooked steak. Staff helpful and service excellent. Would use again if in the region.

Room Tip: Ask for a room overlooking the lake
