“Beautiful!”
Reviewed March 4, 2014

Came here for 3 days before I got married at a different resort on the island. This being our first stop in Fiji, all we did for the rest of the trip was to compare it to the other resorts we stayed at. 3 days definitely wasn't enough.

It's beautiful, like a dream, the staff was helpful but you can definitely tell that management needs to improve. The Fijian wait staff and groundskeepers were very nice, but the management was absent when they failed to address the fact that we were double-charged and failed to acknowledge that some of the kayaks had holes in them.

We stayed here for two nights, we arrived at night so we didn't really get a chance to explore the hotel when we got there. Upon checking in we were told that there was drinking water in the fridge for us and we could finish registration in the morning (we thought that was very nice considering how tired we were). After getting settled we realize that there was no drinking water in the fridge, and we were also missing the alarm clock that the hotel advertised would be in the room. We had to be up early for an outing we had planned so we headed up to registration for water and a clock, only to find it was closed and we had no way of reaching any staff. I realize it was late (I think it was around 10-1030) so we understood why the reception was closed it was just extremely frustrating that these promised amenities weren't in our room in the first place. We decided to just not really sleep to make sure we would be awake in time to make our excursion. We left too early for breakfast so we didn't get to try it. We let them know about the clock and water when we saw them in the morning. When we got back from our excursion we had the water (though half full in an unclean pitcher) and the clock we were promised.
Staff was nice, though not as friendly/personable in other hotels in the area. The power went out the day we were checking out (this is common on the island) so our air conditioner didn't work for a few hours which was extremely uncomfortable, it wasn't the hotel's fault at all, but the hotel doesn't have a generator to keep the air on so it should just be considered when booking. The hotel itself is beautiful-a nice simple getaway on a beautiful beach.

The rooms at the Wellesley are great - comfortable with beautiful furniture. The staff are friendly and helpful. The gardens are spacious and nicely landscaped. The beach is not great but there is a nice pool. The restaurant is good and reasonable.

Room Tip: All rooms are similar, arranged along a walkway with flowers.

We stayed here last year and it was like stepping into our own little paradise. The nicest of staff are always at hand to help make your stay a special one. The Tapas food was the best food I have ever had in Fiji. We go there alot!... Highly recommend booking via The Wellesley in Wellington. The water in front of the resort is a reserve and it becomes obvious when you go swimming... a huge abundance of tropical fish and the Coral is stunning as well. The water sport equipment is free for guest use which is a nice change. We only paid 125NZ per night

Perfect weekend retreat with good access to beach and reef for messing about in the sea. Good food, comfy rooms, free water sports, and really we'll kept gardens with lots of space and feeling of freedom.

Had a one-night weekend stay here. The rooms are set in very well designed gardens in this beautiful small valley, with just a short walk down to the sandy beach front. Good food, well priced and a lovely laid-back attitude to everything. Nicely designed pool. Snorkel gear and kayaks are free, and the reef is right out the front. Clear water, enough interesting things to see, although the coral itself has taken a bit of a hammering over the years - nice to hear that there are coral replanting efforts underway. We had a car, so the access wasn't a problem, but indeed it is a few kms from the main highway.

This is the place to go if you want to get off the frantic busy lane for a while and re-evaluate what's important.
Before you go:
Decide on your mode of transport and book it. We took a taxi but may choose to hire a car next time. I don't recommend catching the bus - impersonal and a fair hike from the main road to the resort.
Leave messages on your phone and computer that you will be on a much deserved break.
It's very liberating to be away from them.
When you land in Fiji:
Get enough cash out to pay local villagers for "activities" eg fishing with Ben is a must. Fundraising dinner at the local village. And the taxi. ($130- $140 each way). It's a 2 hour journey, that's why!
Buy alcohol from duty free & mixers ( you may want to buy wine in NZ before you leave)
The atmosphere is one of simple and slow (Fiji time). The food was fresh, and Crusoe's resort is a 5 minute walk along the beach if you wanted a change of restaurant or The Shop in the local village will cook fish. Kayaks, snorkel gear, pool available which we didn't use but received great service from Lashnai in the Spa
Although it was overcast(weather-wise) for most of the time we were there (5 days), it didn't matter. We came away refreshed and confirmed that it is possible to live a simpler and slower lifestyle.
