Inspired by various tour operators, which stop at the Colonia before going to Montserrat, we did the same using a car. The place is quite abandoned - and is a leftover of a number of unsuccessful projects. Firstly, Mr. Guell's (a businessman and Gaudi's sponsor), which had grand plans for his textile business and also Gaudi's. Gaudi wanted to build an enormous church (commissioned by Mr. Guell) and ended up basically with a "basement" and the rest unfinished. The roof, windows and pillars are nice, but its definitely not a "must to visit" when in Barcelona.

“Nice and quiet ...”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 31, 2012 via mobile

It's a little bit outside Barcelona, so we went by car. The visit is not that long, as the building is not achieved at all and small. But it worth a visit. Entrance ticket are not sold at the crypt itself ! You have to go to the tourist information desk which is at three minutes walk, but not visible from the site itself !

Take your time and have a walk in this small pleasant village. It's really peaceful and quite. I have not seen one tourist !

“Small but perfectly formed.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 6, 2012

Only really of interest to Gaudi geeks and architecture fanatics. Remember it is just the crypt of a small uncompleted church. But what a crypt! Unique. Well worth a visit.

The English -style workers' model village is well worth a stroll around and a cool drink in the plaza in summer.

The bus stops in the village.

One small point. One has to go to the information office to get tickets to enter the crypt (follow the silly blue footprints).

“For the dedicated Gaudi aficionado”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 22, 2012

This is a side trip that is well worth a visit for Gaudi fans. The crypt of the church is amazing; a true Gaudi gem. It's readily accessible by train with a bit of a walk once you arrive at the station. Don't expect to see the normal crowd you see at other Gaudi attractions. This one is one to savor.

“Extra special Gaudi - take time to see it”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 22, 2012

I had heard about this very special Gaudi building - one just outside of Barcelona though very easy to get to by train from Plaza Espagna. The Gaudi Crypt is only one part of what there is to see in this village that was developed by the industrialist Guell to house the workers who worked in his textile factory, The little village is really interesting and you can spend a good 2-3 hours wandering around and looking at the cool building in the village. Really well worth it and a nice change from the bustle of Barcelona. An excellent example of the genius of Gaudi but other architects buildings to see in the village too. The audio tour very well worth it too!
