I booked the Sleeping Moose cottage for my boyfriends birthday. It was our second time staying. It is perfect. Very cozy and comfortable lots of privacy. We snowshoeed two days and really enjoyed ourselves. Ton is wonderful and so accommodating. I didn't see any Moose but we did see lots of evidence of bunnies. Upon leaving very early we saw one little bunny. We had a great time. The cottage is really nice and we love it. I highly recommend it. Great for families too as it has bunks in the second bedroom. We will stay again I'm certain.
Can't say enough great things about this place! We stayed at this lovely wooden cabin for a few days and enjoyed every minute there. It is a quintessentially Canadian experience - the forest, the sea, the big blue skies, and the wildlife. We saw eagles and a snowshoe hare that visited each day just outside the cabin. There were moose trails all around and even right down to the kitchen window - they must have liked the smell of our cooking! The place was a winter wonderland when we arrived and we experienced more snow during our visit and also a storm so ventured down to the beach (you can see the shore from the cabin window) and watched the awesome power of the Atlantic breakers that were roaring in. Owner, Ton lent us snowshoes so we went on a mini hike which was great fun. The cabin sleeps 5 in total - one double room and another double with a single bunk above. It is beautifully clean and modern but retains the wood cabin features and has a great woodburning fire. There is plenty of cut wood to use from the wood store and a TV, DVDs, boardgames etc to keep you occupied when you aren't out enjoying the outdoors. There is a large map of the hikes and trails in the area - the cabin is perfectly located to fully explore the Cape Breton National Park. Kitchen is well stocked with utensils, crockery etc and there is also a large fridge with freezer and microwave available. Decor is tastefully done and the bathroom (with shower) is particularly lovely with a forest view out of the window. Water hot and good pressure. Soft, good quality towels and bedding were provided. The towel design looked like antlers - very in keeping with the moose vibe! Free WiFi worked at all times. Local general store is within walking distance and stocks anything and everything. Owner Ton also has the cafe, The Dancing Moose, a minute's walk away and serves really tasty, homecooked meals - I would recommend the soup (with Ton's homebaked bread) and his Dutch pancakes which were delicious. Fantastic friendly, personal service. The people are what makes this place special. Can't wait to go back!
