I had booked a night at Coconuts as a surprise for my husband.. We had stayed in some basic fales and I thought a night of 'luxury' is what we needed. What a disappointment!!

We stayed in the Cocoa Suite which is the cheapest room but still worked out to be NZ$500 which is more than I have ever spent on accommodation so my expectations were high. The room was very tired and tatty. Not very close to the beach, we looked out onto the back of the day spa. There are two bathrooms in the room identically the same which we thought was a bit weird, neither had a bath which I thought was in this room type.

The restaurant staff were very inattentive and made you feel like you were troubling them with any request we made. On check-in we were told about the meal deal, we decided to consider it and then after checking out the menus we decided to go ahead with it only to be told that we needed to be staying a minimum of 3 nights to take part in this deal.

Go for the Samoan menu at dinner, my meal of coconut fish was great but my husband ordered the steak and was VERY disappointed, this was also the most expensive dish on the menu.

To top off we requested the staff to organise a taxi the next morning to take us to the ferry, they said it would cost $90 tala each. We knew this was too much and so went next door to the restaurant that services the nearby beach fale's and asked if they could call us a taxi - the lovely lady (i think she was the cleaner) did this with no bother, refused payment and stated that the taxi would be $90 tala in total!

If you are looking for somewhere nice to stay after roughing it in fales, I would consider Seabreeze or LeVasa - both were great.

Great chill out relaxing place spread out location we almost feel like the only ones there although the place was pretty much fully booked. Kayaking to the lagoon was awesome! Loved the pool with it's different seating spots although the swim up bar would have got more of my money if it had a bar tender.
The restaurant staff didn't always seem pleased to see us but the food was really good.
Mosquito nets for all beds would be a very welcome addition and the housekeeping was a bit poor, but overall we loved it.
There was no pretension and the staff were really helpful when you asked. Coconuts employs people from the local village many of whom aren't accustomed to the unnecessarily high standards of overworked and up tight western people, and we found it quite refreshing and extremely relaxing to leave all that drama back in NZ.

We splurged at the end of our 2 week trip to Samoa and stayed at Coconuts Beach Resort. What a waste of money! We paid $400 US for an over the water fale which had a wasps nest in it! We were afraid to take off our shoes in the room as wasps were crawling on the floor and spent much of our time trying to get the wasps to fly out the door.

Our room was supposed to be stocked with complimentary drinks but it wasn't so we walked to the bar and requested them. We were treated rudely by the bar staff. By the way, Samoans are, in the vast majority, some of the friendliest and most helpful people on earth. The only rude ones we encountered in 2 weeks worked at this resort.

Later, an older man came up to us while we were having dinner. He didn't introduce himself but we later found out he was the owner of the resort. He berated us in the middle of the restaurant for requesting the beverages which were supposed to have been stocked in the room on check in. It was surreal.

This resort is unprofessionally run and not worth the money.

this hotel / resort was so disappointing. It isn't cheap and we were really looking forward to relaxing here for a few nights, but the whole place is just sort of sad and tatty and poorly run, with a pretty awful restaurant too. On top of that we were drastically overcharged and badly treated. I really wish i had gone to Sinalai up the beach because it looked so beautiful and would have ended up costing less!

We were going to go to Aggie Greys resort, but a workmate told me he & his wife had been to Coconuts the previous year and loved it.
We had booked a treehouse which was lovely apart from the shower, which could'nt be adjusted, it was either cold or scalding. But the room itself was clean & comfortable, roomy, with a large verandah, which had a table chairs and a hammock.
The staff we found to be terrific as with all the Samoan people we met ( it's 12 months later and I still rave on about how nice the Samoan people are }.
We went for the meal deal, which had plenty of variety, but we found after 4 or 5 days we could have done with a change, maybe the food was a little oily.
While there we did a tour of the eastern coastline with a guide named "Spiderman"( a real character ), we did lots of snorkling out the front of the resort , took a kayak around to the lagoon, saw a turtle on our return paddle, we took the local bus ( an experience not to be missed } into Apia where we went to the markets, and walked around to Aggie Greys Hotel for a couple of cold beers. We also hired the resorts car, a slightly worn Suzuki Vitara, our first stop was back to Lalomanu beach where we had been with Spiderman a couple of days earlier, it is beautiful there.
All up we loved it at coconuts, and would go back tomorrow if it was just a little cheaper.
