This is a great little pub for starting or ending a number of fantastic Chiltern walks, just as we did this week. The pub is set in the pretty village of Whiteleaf, and even after a rather wet Spring walk the pub was a welcome goal at the end. The open fire was lit and helped to dry out our rather soggy walking gear. The service was friendly and very good, I always think it's good when the staff come and check all is ok with your food and even bring more drinks if you would like them to the table whilst you're still eating. The food itself was fresh, tasty and well cooked. There are a selection of dishes on the menu including jacket potatoes with various fillings served with salad (we had the chilli con carne potato and coronation chicken potato - both very nice). Salads and sandwiches are also on the menu as well as various other more substantial options which all sounded good. The pub is cosy and unpretentious and the clientele is a good mix of locals and walkers. I've been to this pub a few times now and it's always been very good, really nice to know somewhere so consistent especially as there are so many great walks round here which is just a bonus. I'd definitely recommend it!
