Description: Bridging the gap between country inn & local restaurant The White Oak is an independent and contemporary 'Gastro Pub' where the kitchen & service sets out to please. A L Carte & Set menus also decent value (£15/19 for two/three courses at lunch and dinner). The traditional Roast is served on Sundays alongside the A La Carte. There's also plenty of good drinking on the Corney & Barrow wine list (look for Delamotte Grand Cru Champagne, Archaval-Ferrer Malbec, & 'Psi' Tempanillo from Michael Sisseck), Local Ales & Cocktails in the Bar. The relaxed dining room's thick beams, cream chandeliers and widely spaced, bare tables match the food's smart, unfussy tone, while warm, engaging staff and a compact, broadly priced wine list also fit the bill.

Family get together of 9 people so we had a nice separate dining area. Staff were excellent in helping with 3 energetic children and the supply of extra Yorkshire Puddings was inspirational!
Food was traditional with a twist and the Sunday Lunch was just the right proportions.
Despite the restaurant being busy we were under no time pressure and the service was friendly and not intrusive. Pricing was about right for its location and what was on offer. Would revisit.

Took a colleague for a meal there. Service and food were superb. I've eaten belly pork many times in my life but this has got to be the best! Presentation of the food great too. Worked out around £35 per head for a starter and a main which for the quality of food and drink we got was very good value IMO.

For several years The White Oak used to be our favourite place but sadly it has really gone downhill. It now has overpriced mediocre food and not particularly good service. It always used to be fully booked but this is no longer the case. In February we had a very mediocre dinner for a special occasion with friends. Then in August we took some friends for a celebration lunch - very disappointing. A week later another lunch with a friend - not good and the place was nearly empty.

It has a delightful dining room, nicely spaced tables, friendly staff but this place has really lost its way. What a shame.

We had a fantastic meal here as a small group, although we were lucky with our numbers, as we were 7, but groups of 8 or more have to eat from a more limited menu.

Food was exceptional, and service was friendly and considerate.

Only minor downside was some confusion with the bill at the end, but they were very gracious and apologetic in getting it sorted out.
