My wife and I went to the river rat tonight and we had belly of pork which had over riding flavour of balsamic vinegar which was smoothered over the pork. My wife had the prawns which was good. My wife had the venison with chocolate and cherry sauce which was indistinguishable to normal gravy. I had a t bone steak rare with Diane sauce. The steak was cold on the plate with the Diane sauce so thin it disappeared. The chips looked cooked but were still hard in the middle. Very disappointing for £25. The manager took the criticism and offered a free pudding, coffee. We chose coffee and offered a free port as well. It still cost £100 for a below average meal. Would I go again? When there is a very good restaurant round the corner that is better and cheaper, no.
