“In need of renovation”
Reviewed September 18, 2012

Tired ground floor apartment in need of modernisation. Apartment was in effect one large room with mezzanine floor for bedroom & bathroom. Wood chip paper . Furnishings must have been good years ago but settee covers were turned over with zips exposed to hide the holes on the other side. The apartment was clean and location was lovely but that was about it.

This large collection of apartments and lodges is deep in Sussex countryside and a fairly short car drive to three small villages with basic amenities. The apartments within the main house, a very splendid ex-royal residence, are very large and capacious, with kitchens and lounges as well as bathrooms and bedrooms. The furnishing is quite good, comfy, sometimes a little faded and in need of some refurbishment. Bed linen varies from fine to very average quality.

You really need to plan ahead for this stay, as there is no restaurant or shop on site, so take tea, coffee, milk, bread etc etc and whatever else you need. For meals there are several pubs within 4 miles, and a local store and post office in Handcross, 2-3 miles away. Other villages with some facilities nearby are Staplefield (two good pubs), Balcombe (railway station) and Slaugham (great pub).

The grounds of the house are extensive and pleasant to walk around, and there's a tiny putting green by the house front. The swimming pool is closed and empty. There is a tennis court with an old tarmac surface.

The staff are very helpful and friendly, but there's not a lot of sesrvices offered. You definitely need a car, as taxis charge extra to come out there - a taxi to Handcross 3 miles away is £15, and at night we were charged £25 to return from Staplefield, 2 miles away! It's £24-28 to Gatwick airport, taking 15 minutes only.

Room Tip: Within the main house, Room 10 is particularly spacious; Room 4 has a spiral stair upto a bedroom an...

A lovely hidden gem, just an hour's drive from London and close to the rest of Sussex attractions (Arundel Castle, South Downs, Littlehampton ....). Apartments were very spacious, clean and well equipped. The estate is probably overdue for modernization and renovation of closed facilities like the swimming pool. We were told that updating work is underway by the new owners but will take upto 2 years to complete.

Would highly recommend for a weekend break from London, for families with children.

Brantridge is situated in lovely grounds not too far from some villages and towns, It suited us as we were travelling as agroup of 6 people, The apartment was very spacious and had all the facilities we needed, super dining room! The rooms are a good size with 2 bathrooms and lots of room for lounging around, It is really quite impressive driving up to the house, and the reception staff were very helpful. The furniture is very traditional and we felt it was quite homey.
A little putting green out front and lovely grounds to explore it would appeal to most ages.
A car is necessary as any food stores are about 10 -15 mins away.We thouroughly enjoyed a tranquil weekend at Brantridge and would return.

Amazing countryside holiday at a reasonable price. We stayed at Brantridge park in June for 2 nights, arriving by car and staying in the superior family room (number 7). Immediately we were stunned by the size of the apartment - it's HUGE, with plenty of space for kids to run around, fully equipped kitchen and huge windows overlooking the beautiful grounds. The apartment is period decorated, with the slight shabby feel only adding to the atmosphere in this case and not irritating. Wireless internet throughout is a nice addition you wouldn't necessarily expect in this sort of accommodation. Given it's not really a hotel, there is no restaurant - however, a couple of nice country pubs are within 3-5 mins drive. Most of all - the atmosphere is so tranquil and quiet, it really provides for a relaxing and unwinding country stay. Highly recommended

Room Tip: Superior family room 7 is massive and has amazing views - highly recommended

We chose Brantridge Park based on the excellent reviews on TripAdvisor and also because this wonderful place offers short stay, self-catering accommodation which is quite unusual. We wanted somewhere tranquil where we could relax and shut off from the world and we definitely found it here, in Brantridge Park. It is a truly breathtaking place. This ex-royal residence stands in the most beautiful parkland with views over the West Sussex countryside. The house has been converted into apartments and there are an additional 12 mews cottages with courtyards. We spent our weekend in a mews cottage which was comfortable and very well equipped. The customer service we received was excellent too.

The resident white peacock was a lovely surprise and performed many displays for us in the courtyard as he tried in vain to attract the lone female, but she wasn't having any of it! Be warned he can be a bit vocal at 5.00am.

The only negative, and I hate to have one, is that we felt the place was a little tired and in need of some attention to bring it up to current day standards. The shower was hopeless, so we took baths. We found the electric night storage heaters confusing, no gas central heating, and we were surprised to find a video machine instead of a DVD player, Other than that we were very impressed with the place and will definitely be back again.

After travelling from New Zealand the warm welcome and comfortable accommodation at Brantridge was just what we needed. The staff went out of their way to match our accommodation (Westminster 12) to our needs and we greatly enjoyed our 4-day stay. I discovered Brantridge after persevering on the internet looking for self-contained accommodation where you could have a short-stay. Almost every other place of this nature required a week long booking, and in spite of having previously stayed at 2 other places near by, there was no way a four day booking could be considered.
The beautiful location in the heart of the West Sussex countryside was delightful and we enjoyed playing tennis, croquet, table tennis, billiards and darts. My English family gathered for dinner on two evenings which I was able to cook in the extremely functional kitchen.
We knew there was no provision of tea/coffee etc on arrival so stopped at the Marks & Spencers motorway services at Pease Pottage on our way from Heathrow for an initial start up kit and breakfast for the first day. This was easy and efficient.
Brantridge was a safe place for my young neice and nephew to play and for my parents to enjoy the beautiful surrounds.
Comfortable, warm, hospitable - just lovely.
The only negative thing was a slightly tired feeling to our accommodation, however it was minor and in no way detracted from our enjoyment of our stay.
Again, the staff attention and care was outstanding.
