I am a bit biased as my boyfriend whisked me away to this romantic castle for the weekend and proposed to me here, but I was very much enamored by the place before this happened! It has beautiful gardens for wandering in and taking tea/evening drinks, rooms with huge crackling fires, suits of Armour looming over you on the staircases, the surrounding views are absolutely spectacular, the food was (expensive, but worth it) delicious. If you're looking for a place that actually feels like a castle, this is the one. It even has a drawbridge!
Our bedroom was really comfortable and beautiful, it was like staying in a 16th century castle for sure - except for the flat screen TV and the huge bathroom with hot tub overlooking the countryside!
When I can afford it I'll be rushing back to this place. It is expensive, but it does deliver luxury and history together extremely well. I only wish we had gone for longer, it's a place to really relax and unwind, and really perfect for couples.

For a special treat we booked a stay in the Knepp room at Amberley Castle, the room was very pretty on the face of it, but got very hot (it has very low ceiling height) and was quite dusty and set off my asthma.

We were a bit disappointed with our ourall stay, the owners of the castle were not very friendly and rather offish. The food was good, but it wasn't great when the waiter knocked a drink over me and was not very apologetic. Plus drinks are very expensive.

After breakfast we thought we would have a game on the Hotel's mini-golf putting course, however this was somewhat marred by the dog-mess, from the owners' dogs. Not nice!

We spent two nights at Amberley and really enjoyed our experience. The grounds are spectacular, the staff very helpful, and the food in the restaurant was much better than we'd expected. It's also a lot of fun to stay in a castle.

We stayed in the Amberley Suite, which is right at the top of the main staircase, above the reception desk. It was lovely and offered great views, but light sleepers should be aware that there may be noise from the reception area.

The only frustration during our stay was the hotel's wi-fi, which had a very limited range and a very weak signal [in fairness, this may have been an aberration]. The staff, however, helped us by letting us use their computers to check in for our flights and print boarding passes.

When we got married last year we had a voucher for Amberley Castle. We saved this 'treat' for our 1 year anniversary and though disappointed that the voucher did not cover a stay we looked forward to a meal.

In summary the £130 bill for 4 forkfulls of food and 1 glass of wine/water was eye wateringly expensive and a total rip off. Nice staff but no wonder only 1 person in the restuarant. The chipped plates topped it off nicely

The place is standout gorgeous. Landscaping well planned and truly magical. Take yourself off to visit the tree house with its panoramic views of the castle and south downs beyond.Hide away in the gazebo tucked away in the stunning putting course. Drink a cocktail in the courtyard and then enjoy a really excellent meal.

No the rooms aren't huge but then this is for the most part an actual castle. They were cozy and full of character.

The Hotel should give itself a huge pat on the back for it's service. All the staff came across as genuinely friendly and happy to be there, regardless of the fact that they looked after us so well. No stuffiness here, thank goodness!

We will be back. Didn't really want to leave and that's coming from a well traveled slightly weary observer.

PS: Say hi to the Llamas and apologies for nearly liberating them, never run so fast for a gate in my life

The Castle and setting are just amazing, beautifully restored and very atmospheric with immaculate grounds. Staff are very friendly and helpful whilst being unobtrusive. The accommodation is tastefully decorated and very comfortable, but cobwebs across lampshades, in the corners, etc., suggested corners were being cut with the cleaning.

The dining room is spectacular whilst feeling quiet and intimate. Dress code is elegantly casual and it stated on the menu that as a consequence of using a mobile in the dining room "a bottle of champagne will be charged for the staff." Lunch and dinner were both superb, although some people may find the choices a little limited. The breakfast however was very average and disappointing.

Mobile reception is very poor generally and there is no Wi-fi which may not suit some guests.

We knew that it would be very expensive, which it was, but was absolutely perfect for a once-in-a-lifetime treat. Hopefully (once we've paid off the credit card) we will return....

Amazing entrance procedure through private drive with beautiful view of the castle.
Castle and grounds very pretty, well manicured and lots of areas where you'd be able to sit & have some privacy.
Unfortunately, we felt really let down by our room (Camber). No 4-poster bed although apparently most rooms do have them, it was very noisy being next to a latched door leading to other rooms, and surprisingly, given the thick castle walls, we could hear other guests outside, above and around. Our curtains didn't meet in the middle leaving 6 inches for the floodlights of the castle directly under the window to shine on us all night.
Thoughtful touches such as DAB radio in the room and good tea/coffee facilities were nice but attention hadn't been paid- for instance just one cookie was left in our cookie jar!
We thought the staff were very pleasent and helpful which was absolutely the saving grace for this place.
The choice at the inclusive breakfast doesn't include most of the options! Its the full English (or pastries) or pay if you want anything else. And the poached eggs I had, while cooked perfectly were coated in the water scum- yuk!
The surrounding countryside is beautiful and there are great South Downs walks starting/finishing in Amberley, but staying here is an unnecessarily expensive way to access them.
