“Lovely break”
Reviewed February 2, 2013

Stayed Sat night but arrived early in the day. Car in carpark, we then went for a long walk beside the shore in the sunshine. Explored the area and visited the church. Lunch in a lovely waterside pub and then another walk, arriving back around 4.00. Had a hot back and went into lounge around 8pm. It was lovely listening to the pianist and having a pre-dinner drink. Meal was good and there was a nice ambience in the room.Bed comfortable and breakfast very good.

Went to the millstream for my birthday ...sunday lunch . The service was the best thing about it ...food was fairly cold . Mind you we chose the scallops and as we hadnt eaten them before we wernt sure whether they were meant to be served that way . We both chose the roast beef ...which again was cold as was the yorkshire pudding ...the roast potatoes tasted re-heated but the vegeyables were fine ...the best bit of the meal for me was the chocolate brownie
We have had roast dinners out for a lot better value and its alk been piping hot ....i dont think we will visit again especially if you want somewhere special . Going to try goodwood hotel

Dear frytr
Thanks for your kind comments on the service you received at the Millstream when you came for Sunday lunch. Aris, our Restaurant Manager, remembers you well and what a lovely time you seemed to be having with us. He said that you were really happy about everything on the day and how much you appreciated the special birthday plate our Chef had prepared for you. I'm really sorry that the food wasn't as hot as it should have been. My only request to you or anyone else that has a problem with their food, or any other aspect of their experience, is to tell us at the time - as we can rectify almost any situation. We really do want to make our guests happy and I'm disappointed that we let you down. I do hope that you will try us again and we will make sure everything is piping hot for you. Kind regards Antony

What a fantastic New Years Eve experience. We booked the Millstream Hotel for their two night New Years Package. There were five of us in the party plus two friends. One of the party unfortunately has PKU (basically unable to eat protein in any form).
We contacted the hotel at the begining of December and informed Steve the Reception Manager who discussed it with Antony Wallace. Within 24 hours we had the first pass of a specialised menu for this member of the party with alternatives if required. We fed back information on the menu and within another 24 hours Antony sent through another menu which was perfect.
We arrived on the 31st December and had a very enjoyable afternoom tea with delicious fruit scones and cornish cream. We then took time out and got ready for the evening session. We went down to dinner and started with the champagne and canapes reception followed by a 6 course meal that was exceptional. The special meal that had been prepared for one of our party was delivered personally by Antony to the table. All of the food was fantatsic and many thanks to the Chef, kitchen and all of the restaurant staff providing us with a fantasic. Aris who is the restauirant manager made sure all went to plan without any hiccups but with lots of fun. We had an exceptional evenving with the band playing way into the morning of the 1st January. The band were very good and we are looking to see them again next year. (rooms already booked you need to be quick to secure a place).
New Years Day was one of rest and relaxation with the chance to spend mor time in the hotal and a walk into Bosham which is a very nice village on the estaury.
We and our friends have been to the Millstream before. They always ask for feedback and we always provide it the bast part is that the hotel take the feedback on board and build on the information they receive to make the Millstream even better.
I would recomend the Millstream to all for a great New Year and great for a relaing break with good food, wine, excellent accomodation. and a brilliant team that want to ensure your stay is fantastic.
I would like to thank all at the Millstream for all of their contributions to a fanstatic time. Look forward to seeing you all soon
Steve Price

Dear SteveDPrice
Thanks so much for spending the New Year holiday with us and for writing such a kind review on Trip Advisor. I'm delighted that you had a great time and am really pleased that we were able to look after your guest with the special diet and that she enjoyed all of the dishes that our chefs had prepared specially for her. New Year's Eve is a wonderful party and I'm pleased that the band were so good; I know they had a good time too, which is why they carried on playing so late and also why I have already booked them again for New Year's Eve 2013! Looking forward to welcoming you back then, if not before! All best wishes. Antony

On the Saturday before Christmas I held a dinner for family and friends to celebrate a milestone birthday. From the initial meeting to discuss the event until its conclusion Anthony Wallace and his team looked after us with kindness and efficiency, interpreting our wishes and giving suggestions to enhance the evening. On the day we all had a really good time. The welcome was warm, the newly decorated restaurant was inviting and comfortab and the staff were very friendly and attentive. The food and wine were excellent and received lots of great comments. Thank you to everyone who helped to make this such a memorable evening!

I was at a Christmas party from work and was really looking forward to going th this hotel, the food looked lovely and the wine list was extensive... when we arrived I ordered a bottle of red wine for £26 which I thought was reasonable for what I ordered. I shared the bottle with a couple of colleagues. We decided to order another bottle of wine and gave the waiter the empty bottle, he soon came back and started to replenish our glasses while we were chatting...
At the end of the evening when our bill arrived we discovered the waiter had brought us a more expensive bottle of wine which cost us £50 and when we challenged about the fact that it was their mistake they got quite rude insisting we pay for what we had.. I am willing to pay for anything if I order or purchase it myself...
I am a business woman and I know my staff would never allow the mistake to happen in the first place and secondly I would never treat my patrons in this way..
So as far as I'm concerned I for one would never go back there. It might look good on the Internet but the quality is not only in the food but in the way the business is run and the way the staff treat the paying customer...

Dear patkmep84
Thanks for all the positive things you said about the hotel and the food. I'm so sorry that there was a misunderstanding over the wine which spoilt the end of an evening that you had hitherto enjoyed. The confusion arose because my colleague mistakenly thought that the additional bottle had been chosen by someone who wanted a better wine than you had started with it and who was happy to pay for it. When there are a dozen people dining together, all ordering different wines and drinks, it is sometimes difficult for guests at one end of the table to know what their colleagues have asked for; I'm sorry we got it wrong. We have now refunded the difference and hope that you will accept our sincere apologies for the mix up.
All best wishes
Antony Wallace

I would like to put on record to say what a fantastic break we had last weekend. The break was to celebrate our first wedding anniversary (we got married at the hotel) and it could not have gone any better.

The room (4 poster bed. champagne, chocolates, rose petals etc) was fantastic along with the superb food in the restaurant but best of all is the customer service we received from the staff at the Millstream. From the receptionist to those who worked in the bar and dining room area and the way they were polite, courteous to us throughput our weekend was a credit to the hotel and themselves. They were never obtrusive but equally very attentive when required.

They made all feel so at ease and that nothing was a problem

The staff helped make the weekend a wobdeful experience

Please pass on my gratitude to all those that helped make it a fantastic weekend.

We stayed here after reading some rave reviews about the food and location and as we were in the area could not resist a visit ... Though we wish we could have stayed longer.
One arrival we found the hotel to be very busy due to an afternoon function , so it was difficult to park.
Once settled in we were invited to a have a complimentary glass of something in the lounge/ bar area .. By this time we had it to ourselves and sat in front of roaring fire ( Though i think it was a gas one) ..Lovely.
The room and hotel in general is kept very clean and warm , in fact too warm for us .. But they do cater for more elderly guests so it is understandable.
The bed was very comfortable and the room had everything you could need.
The meal in the evening was served in the lounge area as at the time of our visit the main dining room was being refurbished.
We chose a twice baked cheese soufflé that was absolutely delicious .. Followed by lemon sole fillets , spinach and small vegetable selection which melted in the mouth and was sweet .
Desert was chocolate fondant with small brandy basket and small fruit selection and ice cream .. Again delicious. Homemade bread was also served.
The meal was one of the finest we have had at any establishment and the service was very friendly and efficient.
This was all the more surprising as the hotel was very busy with a bridge club convention on and all the players seemed to arrive at the same time for their evening meal.
After checking out in the morning we took a walk around the village and by the estuary which is very pleasant ( in the sunshine )

Room Tip: One in the main building and not by the kitchen extractor fans if you want an early night !

I'm so pleased that your one night at the Millstream left you wishing you could have stayed longer. There is so much to see and do around this beautiful part of South West Sussex and we have so many lovely dishes for you to try in our restaurant that even a three night stay might still have left you longing for more! It's a bit of a leap of faith booking a hotel room and anyone reading your lovely review will see that we do try really hard to get it right for our guests. Thanks for your reassurance that our efforts are appreciated! We look forward to welcoming back to the Millstream for a longer stay next time. All best wishes Antony
