An atmospheric little pub in a picturesque location, ideal if you are walking or cycling The Salterns Way as we were. What lets this pub down is the fact that it stops serving food at 3.30pm on Saturdays but there is no indication of this on the many blackboards inside and outside. We arrived at the bar at 3.25pm and bought our drinks. We then went back to the bar after putting our drinks on a table in the garden only to be told they'd stopped serving food! The staff cannot have failed to hear us discussing our potential food order when we purchased the drinks but said nothing. Perhaps they realised that, had we known, we would not have ordered drinks but would have gone elsewhere. In the current economic climate, and given the location of this pub and the not insignificant drop in trade which occurs in the winter, to not offer even sandwiches or baguettes throughout a sunny Saturday in August seems shortsighted and lacking in customer focus.
