“First mention beach”
Reviewed August 29, 2013

When you ask what's the name of beach in Jogjakarta, the first mention will come up is : Parangtritis. This long black sandy beach with high current is a well known tourist attraction, local or international. The sunset view is beautiful, even there's not much facility in here but you and your family can ride the hourse carriage to explore the beach from edge to edge.
So far, never bored to visit this beach, but watchout for the seasonal jellyfish.

“Strong current with sand dunes”
Reviewed August 25, 2013

If you love to surf, you should visit this beach. The current was very good, and when you tired, just lay down on the sand dunes.
But do not expect much when you visit Parangtritis, because this place only offer beach, and seafood at night. No club, etc. Located around 33 km south of Yogyakarta

windy beach with dark sand. Not really suitable for swimming as there is a strong current. When we visited, it was kind of low season, as it was shortly before Lebaran, the National Holiday around Idul Fitri. There is not much entertainment on offer. You can take a ride on a horse carriage or drive a quad. The latter we did with great joy.

“Excellent view for a sunset walk....”
Reviewed August 11, 2013

Parangtritis if you read guide books is well know for its sunset view. It is hour bus ride from the Jalan Parangtritis, Yogyakarta. It is worth stop over. However, if you aim to see the sunset, the last bus going back to the city proper is 5:00pm. So if you are aiming to see the sunset, its better to have your own mode of transportation. There are lots of hostels that abound the area, most are very basic but it seems ok. Walking along the coast while listening to the rolling waves gives you a relaxing feel. There are several spots that you can sit and just look at clear blue sky. Basking in the waters of Parangtritis is allowed, but with precaution the waves can be a bit strong.

“Relaxation and fun”
Reviewed April 10, 2013

Although the beach is grey black sand, strong waves and a bit littered, there are many positives to it. The beach is wide and good for activities including the horse-cart ( 20,000 IDR for a short round ride ) and quad bike ride ( small bike sits 2 for 50,000 IDR for 30 mins rent ). Relax on the mat and ate roasted corns prepared by the lady and enjoyed the views and people watching. The beach buskers were there and sang some nice numbers. There's a warm shallow natural pool for kids to frolic in. At the eastern cliff's end, a small waterfall gushes down where locals bath. Also saw someone parasailing near the cliffs. We were there in the late cool evening but did'nt wait to see the sunset.
