“Worth a stay”
Reviewed May 26, 2013

1) Staying here will give you unlimited access to Borobudur from 6am to 5pm. Sunset and Sunrise tour is an additional expense. Anyway, sunset tour was cancelled during our stay due to raining. Do check with the reception if interested.

2) Booked thru Booking.com for 750,000rupiah per room per night. If you deduct 380,000 (190,000 x 2 persons) for entrance fees to Borobudur Temple, infact the room rate for 1 night only cost 370,000rupiah. Being next to Borobudur Temple, you can access to the temple as early as 6am so to avoid the bigger crowd at later time. So, overall still worth staying here for one night.

3) Please check with the hotel on the direction from hotel to Borobudur Temple as it may be a bit confusing considering no signboard. The special gate from hotel to temple is different from ticket purchase gate.

4) Only one restaurant in this hotel. Limited selection of food but it taste good and reasonable price for hotel standard. Eg: Fried rice/noodles 27,000 , large beer 55,000 , avacaodo juice 25,000. No other eatery place outside the hotel unless you have transport.

5) Room is clean and did not spot any cockroach. Hot shower and air-cond.

To experience Borobudur temple in Java is one must and staying in Manohara resort is another .
Take a walk in the dream like park in which the resort is placed .Feel welcomed with Javanese music . Go out of the park to see the majestic Borobudur which lies 200 meters away . Open your door of your room to find a beautiful garden. Have your breakfast or meals among fauna you will never forget . Come op early in the morning to experience sun rise in Borobudur temple. The combination of these two musts will be one experience you will never regret or forget .

Room Tip: any room will do

Wow what a wonderful hotel in a wonderful location. We stayed for 4 nights to try and get a true feel of Borobudur and its surroundings. The hotel is delightful as is its location right next to Borobudur however there is something lacking. The hotel appears to only be set up for one night stays for tour groups. The coffee shop does not open during the day to sell coffee and cakes it is only used for breakfasts. The main restaurant has a very small choice of meals (which are very good) so after 2 nights we were looking for somewhere else to eat. The hotel also does not appear to have a tour desk to sell day trips.
Overall this is a wonderful hotel from which to visit Borobudur but don’t stay for too long as it is not set up for long stays (this can be said for all of Borobudur town)

There is no doubt the draw card for this resort is being so close to Borobudur temple. For me the unlimited access during the day was a huge draw card, however the resort needs to be carefully it does not get complacent.
The room was basic and clean, I would rate as a 3.5 star, there are small signs of ageing but nothing to warrant a refurb yet. The shower curtain was slightly stained and the bathroom is always the first place to show the signs of ageing.
It was convenient to have a small outdoor seating area where you could relax or hang some clothes out to air dry.
The one things that could both improve the resort and encourage people to stay longer would be a pool. There were main occasion when we came back from the temple or a day tour and we would have loved a nice cool dip in a pool.

The one thing that really lets the resort down is the restaurant. The menu is very limited and could be improved after you have been there for more then one night is can get a bit same same. The food that we did have was a mixture of some good and some not so good.
The service was consistently bad and due to circumstances we eat there all three nights of our stay. The last night was the worse when they forgot to give our order to the kitchen and after an hour and everyone around us eating we finally asked where our meal was. They did however give us free dessert for our trouble.

This is a great hotel to stay at if you are planning to catch the Sunrise at Borobudur (which is breathtaking!). It is located within the compound of the temple, and is mere walking distance to the temple.

I love how quiet it is at night. Sitting out at the patio, enjoying the sound of the cricket was pure bliss and serenity. Hotel is very clean, and service was excellent. At night, there's a free local dance show being shown.

Make sure you book ahead of time, or book it with a tour company.

By the way, i love their hair conditioner! :) I'm an avid traveler and usually do not pay notice to trivial things but their hair conditioner was excellent - but then again, so are the food, room, cleanliness, service, etc.

The main reason for us to choose this hotel because of the location. It is just next to Borobudur temple, and as a guest in this hotel, we have advantage of visiting Borobudur with numbers of time using another door. The sunrise package is superb, this is the time you could spend a silent visit in Borobudur while waiting for sunrise with the magnificent view. Normal hours start at 6am and dont be suprise with hundreds of people waiting to enter the temple as early as 6am. For the sunrise package you can expect less than 30 visitors who join in as well.

Room Tip: Only 30 rooms available. Superior rooms located far behind the hotel and more quieter.

I would highly recommend this hotel. Friendly staff, serene atmosphere and clean rooms. Easy access to the sunrise at Borobudur as well. Rooms could have been slightly better though. Breakfast was only average and it would be good to have more options in the spread. There r a few restaurants nearby but not within walking distance. Overall a good resort to stay to relax.
