This is the loveliest place I've ever stayed in. The setting is amazing-- in the middle of fields with views of Borobodur. The suites are beautiful, the service superb and the food delicious. Being able to get to Borobudur in less than 15 minutes makes the sunrise trip a pleasure and is worth the price of the room. Make sure to have the breakfast at Mt Dagi after your visit. If you have time go biking in the nearby villages with a guide from the hotel, a great way to see how the people actually live. Go look in the shop, the quality of the items is better than what you will see almost anywhere else. I kept my doors open at night (there are screens) and loved hearing the sounds of the morning and evening prayers from the nearby villages.

Room Tip: I would stay in a Borobudur suite.

There is no property in the world that looks like this. It has a different feel than anything I have ever experienced. It's like something out of a dream. First of all, major kudos to Edward Tuttle for this amazing design. The diligence that it must of took to plan/build this property is awe-inspiring. From the resort drive-way, you can see Borobudur in perfect symmetry through the lobby. It's remarkable! The resort is modeled after the temple with some other twists that really fit into the environment.

Many have detailed the airport experience, which is a service given to guests that is unlike anything that a resort has ever provided me with. Our driver was excellent and I love that you are assigned the same driver throughout your stay. This really helps with consistency and knowing guest preferences.

There is no reception desk when you check-in (typical of Aman's) and you are instead greeted upon your arrival. As a nice plus, we received a very refreshing non-alcoholic ginger brew while we received an orientation about the resort. The resort creates a schedule for you based on activities. This is something that I love and anyone that is a planner will cherish. We were greeted by the manager Mark who I imagine is great at handling any issues for guests. Although his staff is so terrific that I'm willing to bet that he is normally just there to greet guests.

This was the first resort that we stayed in during our honeymoon that we did not have a pool villa. The room is so extraordinary that we did not miss it. The room had interesting features such as a lovely outdoor terrace and an outdoor bath. All the terraces are very private and cannot be viewed from other rooms. The bed is so comfortable that it gives you the kind of uninterrupted sleep that you just close your eyes for a second and the next thing you know you wake-up the next day. We did not miss having a tv in our room at all. There is also an Ipod pre-loaded in the room with a large collection of music.

Something that really made this place so special were the features that we have never seen before at any other resort. The rooms are supplied with water colors for painting. My wife painted some lovely landscapes from our terrace. Also, the rooms come with his/her hats that are great for keeping the sun exposure away from your head. Sunblock is also provided in the room and ginger tea is brought to the room in the afternoon. Additionally, there is an elderly women by the restaurant that makes the best tea and pastries in the afternoon. I'm amazed how she balances the ingredients (ginger, cinnamon, lemongrass, etc) so well without even measuring.

I have read comments about the breakfasts being good, but the dinners not being up to par. I agree with the breakfasts being superior, but we felt that the dinners were pretty good and exceeded our expectations based on the review. The meats (lamb chops and steak) were very good.

There were several activities that we did such as the private tour of Borobudur, hike to Menoreh Hills, fortune teller, and meditation in the Buddhist temple. The only activity that we were not satisfied with was the meditation. Not because it wasn't something in theory that we could enjoy, but because it didn't contain a proper description of what it actually is. We have never meditated before and we thought this would be more along the lines of an instructional class. In reality, the activity was really going to listen to the monks chant.

We visited the pool for a few hours during our stay and it's absolutely beautiful with a great view of Menoreh Hills in the background. We also visited the spa and thought our Amanjiwo massages were just ok.

Perhaps the best thing about our stay was the staff's commitment to guests. They truly take attention to detail to a whole other level and take exceptional delivery very seriously.

Example 1: We had received flowers in our bathtub in many of the hotels during our honeymoon. But, they surprised us with a path of pedals that led to the bath outside and supplied herbal bath bags. It was truly stunning!

Example 2: I wanted to order a cup of Luwak coffee one morning and the waiter claimed that they had it. However, he was extremely apologetic when he found out that they ran out. Later that day during lunch, I received a whole package of grounded up Luwak coffee to take home. Unbelievable!!!

Example 3: Another example of this service was regarding our flight home that connected in Bali. Our flight changed due to the OPEC meeting and the staff was concerned because our revised flight contained a flight time that sometimes got delayed at Yogyakarta. I couldn't believe how much the staff worked to ensure that our flights worked out. It's almost like they had more of a sense of urgency that we did about it.

Room Tip: They all seemed great.

Friendly staff and amazing hospitality. For example, after our trek, we were carrying our dirty muddy shoes and a staff took them from us. Few hours later, the shoes came back clean and as if we just bought them from the store. Our villa was clean and comfortable. The pool and the grounds were well maintained. We had a great stay and would love to return again.

More we go to Amanjiwo and more we love it. We stayed again in the spectacular hotel in September and it has been a pure bliss from the arrival until the departure. I can't say more about the amazing architecture; the stunning view and the breathtaking location. If you really experience Indonesia, there is no doubt this is the best place because you'll be not only so close from the mysterious Candi Borobudur and all the major temples of this wonderful part of Java but you'll be a just a few steps from the real life. We truly enjoyed walking every morning all around Jiwo, in these little villages where everybody is so nice and adorable, where all the kids will give you a beautiful smile, where you'll be able to look closer at how live the locals, what they do... When we went there at the beginning of September, it was the tobacco season and it was incredibly interesting to see all the process of this major culture of this area.
We didn't do a lot this time cause we have been in most of the cultural places during our previous stays. We wanted to relax and enjoy the immaculate beauty of Jiwo and be pampered by one of the most fantastic Aman family. We haven't been disappointed at all and we consider Amanjiwo as one of the most incredible hotel gems around the world, hard to beat or challenge. It's not often to find a place where you totally forget all your worries, where you have the feeling that your mind is in complete balance with your body, where you consider each member of the staff as one of your relatives but it's happened again and we can't recommend enough anyone who want to have a memorable experience to go to Amanjiwo.
As usual, we were greeted right away we put a step outside the plane and everything was wonderfully arranged to make our stay just unforgettable. Mark, the GM, is somebody who has a great heart and work with passion. The result is absolutely magical cause him and the whole team will look after the smallest detail. We asked them to add a few chairs because some of our friends wanted to visit for a drink in our suite and they turn the terrace into a fabulous setting with candles and roses everywhere. We were celebrating the birthdays of my parents and Mark and the Jiwo family never stop to make some surprises for us: a private dinner around the main pool with a traditional dance show; a excellent BBQ with all our favorites; our favorite white wine as a welcome gift and thousand of other little things which make all the difference. To give you an idea of the excellence of this hotel in term of service, here is an example. The last day in Java, we were staying in Yogya due to an early flight to Bali and to make our departure smoother, Mark arranged a pick up in our hotel in town to drive us at the airport and make us able to enjoy the airport departure facilities with club lounge and assistance. We didn't even check in by ourselves and didn't bring our baggage to the counter. The airport representative has done everything for us and make our departure so much easier. We truly appreciated.
I could say again a lot about Jiwo, about the sensational suites with a gorgeous pool and a relaxing Bale to enjoy the peaceful Javanese countryside and the ultra comfortable bed from where it will be hard to move; the food simple but delicious always using the freshest local products from the market; the incredible serenity you will find everywhere in the resort and the kindness of a team working so hard to make you feel as a royalty. A special mention to Moely and Milad who have provided us the highest standard of service and the most beautiful smiles ever...
So you understand to touch the Nirvana you will have to travel to Magelang and stay in this very special place cause it's maybe one of the last paradise on earth.

Do yourself a favor and stay there if you can, spend the whole day relaxing in the villa.
Visiting Borodbudur temple in the sunrise is a must, and you won't find that many tourists. The design of the spaces is amazing. The only downside was the food, that was ONLY very good, while the rest was perfect. It's very expensive, but I think it's worth it. Service is very personal but never intrusive, it was all perfectly clean and the laundry service as expected. I wish we could have stayed longer.

Room Tip: Any villa with swimming pool will make you feel so lucky.

Amanjiwo is one of the best places to stay in the world and offers perfect luxury (if you can afford it) in every respect. The rooms are actually large free-standing villas with lovely grounds, and spacious, beautiful interiors. There are his and hers closet areas, dressers and sinks, outdoor tubs, separate showers and lounging areas. Although few guests stay more than three days, the rooms have enough drawers and hangars to store weeks worth of clothing. There are numerous thoughtful touches: fresh flowers, fruit baskets that are replenished daily, bottles of water, small snacks, nightly gifts left during turndown service. The food is excellent and extremely varied with well-prepared local and international dishes. And if the menu overlooks a favorite, the chef will be happy to prepare whatever you would like. The activities are unique and always elegantly presented. For example, a picnic by the river will include a magically set table with cushions and umbrellas and even wrapped batik fans in case you want more of a breeze. The staff is dedicated to making every guest feel happy and at home and they succeed brilliantly.

Room Tip: There are no bad rooms. All rooms are basically the same except for their relative location within...

This is the best hotel ever. It is like walking on air. The staff at Amanjiwo manage to do everything quite perfectly, unobtrusively and simply - no stuffiness at all. From the moment we landed (quite literally they managed to look after our visas before we got to immigration - don't know how) the service was wonderful. The driver who picked us up at Solo city was so helpful and interesting about the land and sights on the way. I'm sorry I do not remember his name but he was a lovely man. The pickup car had a little box of homemade biscuits and wifi - perfect.
The site and style of the hotel is quite breathtaking, very serene and simple but very luxurious too - overlooking the Borobudur temple in the distance. We were in a Borobudur Suite which was absolutely gorgeous. I cannot imagine what the next level up would be like. Photographs of this hotel do not do it justice.
My son had a slight accident (my husbands fault!) while we were there and I have never known a more genuine and sweet response from an organisation. All the staff were genuinely concerned for him and so helpful. Winnie went way beyond the call of duty by escorting us to hospital and making sure that we had help the whole time we were there. I cannot speak to highly of this place. I fear I may have developed an Aman addiction - not cheap but worth every penny.
